It was a time when making music, and doing it well, mattered more than \u2026 O. My. Gosh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Dynamic Duos, Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy<\/a> is still one of my favorites. (I always thought the line about Jesus was an existentialist artistic reflection. In other words, it made sense within the context of the song, the quest.)<\/p>\n

I believe it\u2019s possible to take one\u2019s struggles and temptations and turn them into a craft: poetry, prose, lyrics and art. (Even Confessions<\/a>, ask St Augustine \u2014 whose birthday is today.) The muse might possess a bit of madness but, as long as the madness is wrestled with, art is born.<\/p>\n

Yet, in a fallen world, the madness itself may become the quest. Instead of the hound that drives a man toward greatness, it becomes the sole possession of a man blinded by self.<\/p>\n
