{"id":2047,"date":"2005-05-05T03:07:00","date_gmt":"2005-05-05T03:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/orthodixie\/2005\/05\/darwins-extinction.html"},"modified":"2005-05-05T03:07:00","modified_gmt":"2005-05-05T03:07:00","slug":"darwins-extinction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/orthodixie\/2005\/05\/darwins-extinction.html","title":{"rendered":"Darwin&#8217;s Extinction?"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.straphaelnc.com\/darwin.jpg\" align=\"left\">Nearly 30 years of teaching evolution in Kansas has taught Brad Williamson to expect resistance, but even this veteran of the trenches now has his work cut out for him when students raise their hands.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because critics of Charles Darwin\u2019s theory of natural selection are equipping families with books, DVDs, and a list of \u201c10 questions to ask your biology teacher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What some students are asking their biology teachers <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Critics of evolution are supplying students with prepared questions on such topics as:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 The origins of life.<\/strong> Why do textbooks claim that the 1953 Miller-Urey experiment shows how life\u2019s building blocks may have formed on Earth \u2013 when conditions on the early Earth were probably nothing like those used in the experiment, and the origin of life remains a mystery?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Darwin\u2019s tree of life.<\/strong> Why don\u2019t textbooks discuss the \u201cCambrian explosion,\u201d in which all major animal groups appear together in the fossil record fully formed instead of branching from a common ancestor \u2013 thus contradicting the evolutionary tree of life?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Vertebrate embryos.<\/strong> Why do textbooks use drawings of similarities in vertebrate embryos as evidence for common ancestry \u2013 even though biologists have known for over a century that vertebrate embryos are not most similar in their early stages, and the drawings are faked?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 The archaeopteryx.<\/strong> Why do textbooks portray this fossil as the missing link between dinosaurs and modern birds \u2013 even though modern birds are probably not descended from it, and its supposed ancestors do not appear until millions of years after it?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Peppered moths.<\/strong> Why do textbooks use pictures of peppered moths camouflaged on tree trunks as evidence for natural selection \u2013 when biologists have known since the 1980s that the moths don\u2019t normally rest on tree trunks, and all the pictures have been staged?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Darwin\u2019s finches.<\/strong> Why do textbooks claim that beak changes in Galapagos finches during a severe drought can explain the origin of species by natural selection \u2013 even though the changes were reversed after the drought ended, and no net evolution occurred?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Mutant fruit flies.<\/strong> Why do textbooks use fruit flies with an extra pair of wings as evidence that DNA mutations can supply raw materials for evolution \u2013 even though the extra wings have no muscles and these disabled mutants cannot survive outside the laboratory?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Human origins.<\/strong> Why are artists\u2019 drawings of apelike humans used to justify materialistic claims that we are just animals and our existence is a mere accident \u2013 when fossil experts cannot even agree on who our supposed ancestors were or what they looked like?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Evolution as a fact.<\/strong> Why are students told that Darwin\u2019s theory of evolution is a scientific fact \u2013 even though many of its claims are based on misrepresentations of the facts?<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Discovery Institute<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/2005\/0503\/p01s04-legn.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Christian Science Monitor<\/a>.<br><em><span style=\"font-size:78%\">THX: <\/span><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thunderstruck.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em><span style=\"font-size:78%\">Thunderstruck<\/span><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 30 years of teaching evolution in Kansas has taught Brad Williamson to expect resistance, but even this veteran of the trenches now has his work cut out for him when students raise their hands.
