(You know,<\/span><\/span> Pittsburgh<\/span><\/span>.)<\/p>\n

O<\/span><\/span>n this week\u2019s episode of the Orthodixie Podcast<\/a><\/span>, I interview Fr John Salem on the high calling of Priesthood.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fr John is a very funny guy. Thus, I was surprised by his very serious reflections on the work and call<\/span> of a priest. Here follows the questions; you\u2019ll have to listen in for his answers:<\/p>\n

So \u2026 you weren\u2019t happy in life, being whatever you were before you felt called to the priesthood; I mean, how\u2019s that work?<\/span><\/p>\n

What can you say about the office of the Priesthood? What do you find to be the greatest struggle? The greatest joy?<\/span><\/p>\n

What does a priest do?<\/span><\/p>\n

[Follow up question]<\/span> What does a priest do on that \u201chalf day\u201d he does<\/span> work?<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m an adult convert to Orthodoxy; I grew up in church, but not the Orthodox Church. You, Fr John, grew up in the Orthodox Church. I\u2019m sure there were priests along the way that you noticed \u2013something about the way they carried themselves; they treated people; they served the Liturgy \u2014 that had an influence on you?<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking through the eyes of, say<\/span>, your own children \u2014 if they see a priest celebrating the Liturgy \u2014 what questions might come to mind?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Anytime someone says to me that they feel called to be a priest, one of the first things I ask them is: \u201cDo you like going to church?\u201d I mean, if someone doesn\u2019t like going to church, I\u2019d say they\u2019re probably not being called to Priesthood. So, you like<\/span> going to church?<\/p>\n

Someone comes to you and says, \u201cI feel called to be a priest\u201d <\/span>\u2013 or \u2013<\/span> \u201cI think I want to be a priest\u201d <\/span>\u2013 or \u2013<\/span><\/span> \u201cI want to go to seminary and study for the Priesthood\u201d \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
