L<\/span><\/span><\/b>ast October, the wife and I went to the United Kingdom in celebration of 25 years of marriage; that\u2019s where the \u201cgay\u201d part came up.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
No<\/b><\/i>, I didn\u2019t make some startling revelation \u2026<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It was on a bus, a very public display.\u00a0 <\/span>I was glad we didn\u2019t have young kids with us.\u00a0 <\/span>Then again, I\u2019ve been bullied on a bus before.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Growing up in rural North Carolina, from first grade till driver\u2019s license, I rode the bus to school.\u00a0 <\/span>Bus #39<\/i>.\u00a0 <\/span>There was another kid, we\u2019ll call him Billy Green, who used to share the bench seat with me.\u00a0 <\/span>Billy grew up on an egg farm and, honest to goodness, always walked on his tippy-toes like, literally, walking on egg shells \u2013 or trying not to.\u00a0 <\/span>We were quiet.\u00a0 <\/span>We read books.\u00a0 <\/span>We were nerdy.\u00a0 <\/span>We were considered, in the best sense<\/i><\/b> of the word, queer \u2026<\/span><\/div>\n
