Listen <a href=\"http:\/\/ancientfaith.com\/podcasts\/orthodixie\/twas_the_night_of_nativity\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">HERE<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:180%\"><span>\u2018<\/span><span>T<\/span><\/span>was the night of Nativity, when all through the church<\/p>\n<p>No one was stirring, not even that naughty kid Burch;<\/p>\n<p>The lampadas were hung by the icons with care,<\/p>\n<p>In hopes Fr Vasilios soon would be there;<\/p>\n<p>The children were seated all snug in their pews,<\/p>\n<p>With visions of hotdogs, M&amp;Ms; and juice;<\/p>\n<p>And mamma in her \u2018kerchief, and I sans my cap,<\/p>\n<p>Had just settled in for our long liturgical recap.<\/p>\n<p>When out in the narthex arose such a clatter,<\/p>\n<p>I sprang from my spot to see what\u2019s the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Away to the candle stand I flew like a flash,<\/p>\n<p>Bumped into an usher, who was really quite brash.<\/p>\n<p>The look on his face was one you would know<\/p>\n<p>He looked like ol\u2019 Scrooge more so than Mr HoHo!<\/p>\n<p>When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,<\/p>\n<p>But a little grey Pinto with eight kids in the rear,<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s old engine sounded colicky, clackidy and sick,<\/p>\n<p>I knew in a moment it must be that ol\u2019 Widow Pasternick.<\/p>\n<p>More rapid than eagles her charges they came,<\/p>\n<p>While she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, Nicholas! now, Nickos! now, Nikolai and Nixon!<\/p>\n<p>On, Constantine! on Kostos! on, Gus and Constantinos!<\/p>\n<p>To the front of the church! to the steps by the wall!<\/p>\n<p>Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,<\/p>\n<p>When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,<\/p>\n<p>So up to the iconostasis the boogers did flew,<\/p>\n<p>With handfuls of candles \u2013 seven day inserts too.<\/p>\n<p>And then, in a twinkling, I heard a big whoosh<\/p>\n<p>I looked back behind me, and saw Phil Tamoush.<\/p>\n<p>I went to say \u201cHi,\u201d fore I turned back around,<\/p>\n<p>When there rang a loud bell, heard throughout the town.<\/p>\n<p>Father was dressed in white, from his head to his foot,<\/p>\n<p>And his vestments were trimmed in gold \u2013 and silver to boot;<\/p>\n<p>An icon of Jesus centered there on his back,<\/p>\n<p>He looked out over us as he pulled the holy doors back.<\/p>\n<p>His eyes \u2014 how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!<\/p>\n<p>His cheeks were all covered \u2026 even his nose was hairy!<\/p>\n<p>With wrinkles \u2018round eyes his years did show,<\/p>\n<p>And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;<\/p>\n<p>The chains of the censer he held tight like a thief,<\/p>\n<p>And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;<\/p>\n<p>He had a Subdeacon who had a big belly,<\/p>\n<p>That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly \u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;font-size:130%\">The <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Orthodixie Podcast <\/span>on <a href=\"http:\/\/ancientfaith.com\/podcasts\/orthodixie\/twas_the_night_of_nativity\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ancient Faith Radio<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:78%\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">This episode originally aired December 2007.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They say \u201cyou can\u2019t make a silk purse out of a sow\u2019s ear\u201d \u2014 but, I\u2019m not so sure \u2026 now that the Orthodixie Podcast intro\/outro has been updated.
