I confess that I had to spell-check Albuquerque. I have been through Albuquerque before, but have never spent any time here, so this is a first… and I really like firsts. I’m sitting in an open air market in the Old Town, watching the street vendors set up their wares. It’s really charming. We are staying at the Norbertine Monastery just outside of town. There’s a massive hot air balloon meet in town right now, so I think I’m getting to see the city at its finest. I awoke this morning to three hundred balloons hanging in the air above downtown. It was surreal.

I’m in town with the Associated Ministerial Order to visit with Richard Rohr at the Center for Action and Contemplation. We have all been influenced by Rohr in one way or another, so came here on a kind of pilgrimage are getting to spend some time with him and our small group of eight or ten people. I’m excited to meet him face to face and to get to have an extended conversation for a couple of days.

I confess that last night I learned that my friend Sam(names have been changed to protect the innocent), has never heard the phrase “butt-crack of dawn.” He did a good three minutes on the etiology of the phrase “crack of dawn,” but never butt-crack. What time has he been getting up?

I confess that I ate at a place called Blake’s Lotaburger last night with my friends. I get the sense that the old Lotaburger isn’t exactly a destination burger joint, it’s more like the place where you end up when everything else is closed – at least that’s how it happened for us. Anyway, let’s just say I’m paying for it today. Anybody have insider information on Albuquerque, first in regard to Lotaburger and it’s relative merit, second in regard to places we should visit or eat.

I confess that I had the stomach flu last week. I confess that I’m a total wimp when it comes to getting sick. However, the whole time I was sick I kept thinking of the Brian Regan bit about the hospital (say eight). “It seems as though everything on my inside wants to be on my outside.” It helped. Thanks Brian Regan. It took awhile but I finally am starting to feel back to normal. For sure, the Lotaburger will put my theory to the test.

I confess that I cannot figure out my iphone. It works slow and I’ve been trying to post a few Facebook updates and pictures but it’s not firing correctly. I confess that last time I updated the software on my phone, it switched from my new apple id to an old apple id from an older iphone. I’m not savvy enough to correct this problem I confess that my typical approach to technical issues is the equivalent to putting newspapers over it to cover it up.

I confess that the live music in old town right now is being performed by a pan flute trio. I confess that this is my first time seeing a plan flute trio and it is freaking me out a little bit. Right now they are playing, “I can’t live, if living is without you,” of Harry Nillson fame, (also Badfinger and Maria Carey… I Googled it). These guys are really good, but I don’t get the appeal of the music – ethereal, world music – think Zamphir. One of the players is checking his Twitter in the middle of the song, apparently without missing a single note. I’m guessing these things are not that easy to play, so he must be the best of the three. They’ve moved onto The Sound of Silence. You’ve never heard The Sound of Silence until you’ve heard it performed live on the pan flute. This. Is. Awesome.

Okay that’s my confession… now it’s time for you to make yours!

I confess that I’m writing today’s confession from Albuquerque.
