We have one for everything now:\u00a0Emmys, Oscars, tonys, ESPYs, Golden Globes, People\u2019s Choice, Critic\u2019s Choice, Image Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, SAG Awards, Kid\u2019s Choice, VMAs, CMAs, and of course, the Christian version \u2013 The Dove Awards.\u00a0It is no longer enough just to write a book, make a movie, star in a musical, write a play, or sing a song; you have to win a contest over everyone else, right? That\u2019s the pinnacle in our society. It seems a bit lacking in artistic or poetic beauty doesn\u2019t it? Seems to me the way we celebration imagination in our culture should involve a little more, I don\u2019t know\u2026 imagination.<\/p>\n

Typically I abstain from watching all award shows on principle. There are only a few with which I cannot help myself. I usually catch some of the Oscars, but my favorite is the Golden Globes \u2013 mostly because they are both film and<\/em> television. I can get a crash course on pop culture, because I\u2019m chronically late to that party. The Golden Globes are built around the Hollywood Foreign Press, so I feel like the show is a little smarter than most award shows. Finally, they have the good sense to let Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler host the show \u2013 two of the funniest people on the planet.<\/p>\n

This is a clip from last year\u2019s show, where two great sketch comedians \u2013 Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig \u2013 do their thing. Can\u2019t figure out why Tommy Lee Jones was so cranky about it. Anyone?<\/p>\n
