When at their worst, writers work at language in order to sound impressive or smart or ironic or cynical.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend the former, and these ten words to get you rolling\u00a0again\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/assiduous?s=t\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Assiduous<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>[<em>uh<\/em>\u2013<strong>sij<\/strong>-oo-<em>uh<\/em>\u00a0s]; <em>adjective<\/em>; hardworking and diligent in effort; industrious and persevering at a task.<\/p>\n<p>Use: \u201cGreat risks come in long term, tremendously assiduous, very courageous study.\u201d \u2013 William Hurt<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/nefarious?s=t\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Nefarious<\/strong> <\/a><\/h2>\n<p>[ni-<strong>fair<\/strong>-ee-<em>uh<\/em>\u00a0s]; <em>adjective<\/em>; wicked or immoral; despicable; having evil or villainous motivation.<\/p>\n<p>Use:\u00a0\u201cCharacters that are doing something nefarious have some extra layers to them\u2026 bad people don\u2019t necessarily think they are bad.\u201d \u2013 Jason Alexandar<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/solecism?s=t\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Solecism<\/strong> <\/a><\/h2>\n<p>[<strong>soh<\/strong>-l<em>uh<\/em> -siz-<em>uh<\/em>\u00a0m]; <em>noun<\/em>; unconventional or incorrect grammatical construction; flagrant violation of social etiquette (usually for effect).<\/p>\n<p>Use:\u00a0\u201cWe live now in the post-aural age, when an unsolicited phone call is, thankfully, becoming more and more understood to be an unspeakable social solecism, tantamount to an impertinent invasion of privacy.\u201d \u2013 Will Self<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/Anachronistic?s=t\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Anachronistic<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>[<em>uh<\/em>-nak-r<em>uh<\/em>\u2013<strong>nis<\/strong>-tik];\u00a0<em>adjective;<\/em>\u00a0someone or something that belongs to an earlier period of time; outdated or old fashioned; against chronological order.<\/p>\n<p>Use:\u00a0\u201cThe next real literary \u201crebels\u201d in this country might well emerge as some weird bunch of anti-rebels, born oglers who dare somehow to back away from ironic watching, who have the childish gall actually to endorse and instantiate single-entendre principles\u2026 these anti-rebels would be outdated, of course, before they even started.
