Tierra <\/strong>Sagrada (Sacred Earth, Sacred Trust) is the name of a Global Day of Prayer and action for Climate Change on June 12<\/span><\/span>.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

June 12<\/span><\/span> marks six months after the Paris Climate Agreement and coincides with the celebration of International Environment Day (June 5) and the first anniversary of the publication of Pope Francisco\u2019s Encyclical \u201cLaudato Si<\/a>\u2018 (June 18<\/span><\/span>).<\/p>\n

A record 175 countries have already signed the Paris Climate Agreement. Laudable yes; but\u00a0we are still set for temperature rises well above the critical 1.5 \u00b0 C limit that governments approved, and that scientists, activists and vulnerable communities are fighting for with the weltschmerz<\/em> cry of \u20181.5 to Stay Alive\u2019.<\/u> We must stand with them and we must be heard!<\/em><\/p>\n

The participation of each and every one of us at this point is key, not only to pressure governments to comply with the Paris Agreement but to increase their commitments and the chances of survival for human beings and many other species that are God\u2019s creation.<\/p>\n

Latin America is Leading the Way<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Santiago de Chile<\/strong>, the Ecumenical Coalition for Creation Care is organizing a major interfaith Earth act simultaneously highlighting the alarming fallout of communities in socio-environmental conflicts in the regions.<\/p>\n

In Colombia, Bogota\u2019s<\/strong> Interfaith Ecotheology Group will host a major event at a metropolitan park which will be shared through an innovative social media network created for the purpose of promoting integral ecology.<\/p>\n

In the Dominican Republic,<\/strong> the Capuchins will hold a course about the encyclical Laudato Si\u2019<\/em> and will unite their voices with those who profess that the earth is One Sacred and Interconnected Web of Life, in need of our moral stewardship and corresponding reverence.<\/p>\n

You are invited\u00a0to join this campaign for an Earth that is sacred. She nourishes, sustains, and welcomes us. Gaia is our home,\u00a0our sacred charge deserving of our time, awareness, and contemplative attention.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Dylan Connection<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bob Dylan\u2019s<\/a> legendary ballad, Blowin\u2019 in the Wind<\/em> poses a series of rhetorical questions: How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man? How many years must some people exist before they\u2019re allowed to be free?\u00a0 How many times can a man turn his head pretending he just doesn\u2019t see?<\/p>\n

The refrain, \u201cThe answer, my friend, is blowin\u2019 in the wind\u201d has been described as \u201cimpenetrably ambiguous; either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind.\u201d *<\/p>\n

When I reflect on the contentious and inflammatory issue of climate change on our planet, I contend that the answer to our strife is not to be found in the \u201cimpenetrable ambiguity\u201d of political posturing: It is to be found in the human heart.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"orange-1117645_640\"We are all aware of the indisputable and threatening climate data of our times. That\u2019s the heady, intellectual hardware we mostly operate from. Now\u00a0With uplifted hearts, let\u2019s give thanks for Earth\u2019s many blessings, celebrate our amazement at how wonderful the planet is and our outrage at the extent of its destruction and contamination. Let us\u00a0show inter-species solidarity with all the living, conscious forms of life who share this planet with us.<\/p>\n
