Ever wonder why TVs, satellite dishes, PCs, and all heavy-duty electrical devices in our homes and hospitals, need to be grounded?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a word, stabilizing \u00a0electrical current offsets the build-up of static electricity and \u2014 well that means we or our devices won\u2019t explode into frazzled shards of charcoal.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s my question: If electrical current\/energy requires a reference point for safety and stabilization, where does that leave us?<\/strong> Why aren\u2019t we\u2014living, breathing and bio-electrically charged beings living on an electrical planet\u2014similarly grounded?<\/p>\n

Well, the truth is, we were. For thousands of years most indigenous \u00a0peoples walked, slept<\/a>, sat, and interacted skin-to-skin with Mother Earth. That\u2019s grounding in its purest form.\"camila-cordeiro-20345\"<\/p>\n

And the health benefits? Enormous. I\u2019ll address those in a bit, but first\u2014what happened?<\/p>\n

Disconnection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regrettably we have \u00a0stopped communing in a salubrious and symbiotic manner with the planet that has birthed us. We daily pollute the living organism that breathes for us; and our relationship with the earth seems to be primarily mechanistic\u2014not organic.<\/p>\n

Look around you, we\u2019re either cooped up in our offices incessantly bombarded by electromagnetically charged (and not very benign) energy fields, or we\u2019re out and about\u2014yes, in nature\u2014but severely insulated by our high-tech, rubber-soled shoes, from the earth beneath our feet\u2014charged as it is (benignly) with an endless supply of health-promoting free electrons.<\/p>\n

We have forgotten what it means to walk in skin-to-skin reverence with the soil.<\/p>\n

And we\u2019r paying for it\u2014physiologically, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually . .<\/p>\n

Get those Sneakers Off!<\/strong><\/p>\n

By isolating ourselves in artificially controlled environments,\u00a0we sever our vital connection to the natural wildness<\/a>, biodiversity and abundance of nature.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t truly know, love or honor anything until we feel and touch it<\/strong>. There needs to be a mutual sense of touch and belonging if the relationship is to be one of moral companionship. And we\u2019ve lost that kindred connection with the earth.<\/p>\n

Earthing involves removing ones footwear so as to go skin-to-skin with Mother Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"feet-1659412_640\"But why? Simply because (like the planet itself) we have always been electrically charged beings and our natural state of connection to the earth is through bodily contact. By walking barefoot on the earth (soil, sand or cement) we naturally absorb the endless supply of \u201cfree electrons\u201d on its surface and, consequently, equalize the electrical potential in our bodies with that of the earth.<\/p>\n

So?<\/p>\n

Years of research\u2014pioneered by Clint Ober and the\u00a0Earthing Institute<\/a>\u2014would dramatically attest to the health and general well-being benefits of this practice (particularly the immediate and long-term reduction of inflammation, the most common factor associated with all modern diseases.)<\/p>\n

For me, earthing has become a spiritual practice. Whether on the beach, on the hills around my home (vigilant for goose and deer poop), or any time there\u2019s a good spill from the heavens, on the wet cement outside\u2014to walk barefoot on the earth\u2019s surface is calming, centering, and conducive to a loving, living relationship<\/em> with the earth that has birthed our\u2014and all\u2014species.<\/p>\n

So, I encourage it, as I encourage any form of communion with nature (hours of it!). As a spiritual practice of caring for and reverencing the earth and the cosmos\u2014God\u2019s primary revelation and incarnational flesh-to-flesh intimacy with us.<\/p>\n

So . . .<\/p>\n
