Although it\u2019s most likely brash political posturing<\/strong>, withdrawing from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement<\/a> is still an egregious faux pas on the part of the Trump Administration.<\/p>\n

Come on! Mr (Jack*ss) President. And you want to make us the pawns?<\/p>\n

And no<\/strong>, your sleazy quip,\u00a0\u201cI was elected to represent the citizens of $\"trump-1915241_640\"$ Pittsburgh, not Paris,\u201d won\u2019t cut it, Mr. President. Not when you leave the citizens of the world<\/em>\u00a0gasping for breath when global temperatures from fossil fuel emissions could\u00a0spike to 3.6 C<\/a> by the end of the century\u00a0\u2014 if this blunderhead U.S. withdrawal actually transpires<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Yes<\/strong>, economic growth, jobs, and homespun energy production are important. No one\u2019s disputing that. But when the energy you are referring to is not clean, sustainable, or renewable, and your only focus is on short-term gains, the world will have something to say about it.<\/p>\n

And the Real World Leadership <\/strong>has spoken:<\/p>\n

As noted on the BBC World News<\/a>:<\/p>\n

European Commission\u00a0<\/strong>President Jean-Claude Juncker, opening a summit with China in Brussels, said, \u201cThere is no backsliding on the Paris agreement.\u201d<\/li>\n
UN<\/strong> Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the fight against climate change was \u201cunstoppable.\u201d<\/li>\n
Indian Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan<\/strong> said, \u201cAs far as the Paris accord is concerned\u2026our government is committed, irrespective of the stand of anyone, anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/li>\n
The\u00a048 least developed countries<\/strong> were deeply disappointed, but believed the global climate momentum would continue with or without the United States, said chairperson Gebru Jember Endalew.<\/li>\n
Small island nations,\u00a0<\/strong>whose existence is threatened by rising sea levels, were also critical. The President of the Marshall Islands, Hilda Heine, said it was \u201chighly concerning for those of us that live on the frontline of climate change.\u201d<\/li>\n
Japan\u2019s <\/strong>Finance Minister, Taro Aso, said, \u201cI\u2019m not just disappointed, but also feel anger.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Thankfully, three years notice must be given by any of the 148 countries that ratified the 2015 Paris Agreement on Emissions Reduction. And you can add another year onto that before it would take effect.<\/p>\n
By then we may have dumped our demagogue White House incumbent in favor of a more globally accountable and visionary leader.<\/p>\n
Getting back to the question of climate change and the choosing of a new direction . .<\/p>\n
I have hope:\u00a0<\/strong>In my debut book, Do It Anyway: Deep Spirituality Meets Real Life<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(published by Patheos Press), I reflect on the direction I believe we need to take:<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe it is well within our grasp to clean up our fossil fuel energy mess around the world, and start investing our time, resources, and ingenuity in developing clean, renewable, inexhaustible, and freely available energy sources.<\/em><\/p>\n
For this to happen, it will inevitably come down to our will for change and the radical transformation in human consciousness that needs to emerge in order for these possibilities to become vibrant realities. And they will become vibrant realities. Because new movements of ecological vision and sustainability are springing up all over the world. New spiritualities and cultures centered on loving communion with all sentient and non-sentient beings are emerging. Eco-activists are drumming to a new beat\u2014a new energy of hope even in the face of unlistening and dispassionate leaders.<\/em><\/p>\n
And their voices and initiatives will be heard<\/strong>, because they are the voices of new ecological birthing in our midst.<\/em><\/p>\n
Exploding oil trains, nuclear plant disasters, fractured mountains and ocean floors, contaminated soil, addiction to petrochemical products and fossil fuels, and synthetic foods are symptomatic of the greatest human misadventure of our times\u2014industrialization and mechanization gone AWOL. We\u2019ve literally, and unintentionally, taken leave of our senses. We\u2019ve severed the one vital connection that grounds us to who we are: our interrelatedness with the entire web of life. We are living, conscious beings who are only living, breathing and conscious, because everyone and everything else around us\u2014past and present\u2014make this possible.<\/em><\/p>\n
Buddhism has an eloquent term for this. It is called, \u201cInterdependent Co-Arising.\u201d In other words, everything arises in dependence upon multiple causes and conditions. As a human species we are not, individually or collectively, a singular, insulated entity. We are in a mutually interdependent relationship with the whole created order. We can deny, overlook, deride, dilute, and forget this all we like; and we can continue to feed our pathological arrogance for some years to come.<\/em><\/p>\n
But, the writing is on the wall for our eventual demise, if we stubbornly persist in this mass delusion.<\/em><\/p>\n
Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh\u00a0was once asked what we need to do to save our world. \u201cWhat we most need to do,\u201d he replied, \u201cis to hear within us the sounds of the Earth crying.\u201d[i]<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Good News is\u00a0our president\u2019s latest faux pas on the world stage\u00a0has only inflamed the passionate will of the world to regroup and take this fight to the next level.<\/p>\n
