Live well, Love much, Laugh a lot<\/b> \u2013 <\/i>This much co-opted line from Bessy Anderson Stanley\u2019s poem, \u2018Success\u2019 speaks to the essence of what constitutes a healthy outlook on and relationship to life.\u00a0 So if you are someone who values the place and importance of endorphin-releasing laughter in your life, then pull up a stool, put your smiley face <\/i>on and let\u2019s take a gander at the healing gift of spontaneous joy and laughter in God\u2019s infinite dream of humanity\u2026<\/p>\n

A friend of mine, Fr. Sean O\u2019Laoire, Ph.D whom I will be featuring in an upcoming post, has a particular \u2018take\u2019 on what physicists call the \u2018Big Bang\u2019 \u2013 that nanosecond of explosive light-energy that erupted into existence the known universe in space-time.\u00a0 Sean refers to this moment as God\u2019s rip-roaring, rapturous laughter at Her newest creation!\u00a0 And I happen to think the man has a point: laughter is a consciousness impulse of epic and cosmic proportions.\u00a0 I\u2019ll revisit this; but first \u2013<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>What is Laughter?<\/b> Essentially it is a spontaneous consciousness response to the incongruous meeting
\nof two people, events, or incidents that, in their absurdity and apparent dissonance, make us fall over laughing.<\/p>\n

The Ripple Effect<\/b>: This rippling effect is experienced in all highly evolved species \u2013 and yes, believe it or not \u2013 that includes us!\u00a0 It eliminates stress.\u00a0 The \u2018ripple effect\u2019 is felt over the diaphragm which guards the heart (seat of the emotions) and nervous system.\u00a0 But it doesn\u2019t stop there!\u00a0 Because it\u2019s a consciousness impulse<\/i> it also ripples across the skies, bouncing interplanetarily and intergalactically out into the furthest reaches of infinity!\u00a0 And to think you thought you had snuffed it out in your Kleenex when you let rip (momentarily) at that hilarious moment at your friend\u2019s wedding when the bride slipped on her train and disappeared unceremoniously into the priest\u2019s vestments!\u00a0 Oh no \u2013 laughter reverberates on, and on, and on\u2026<\/p>\n

Gift of Love<\/b>: Laughter is a gift of love to a human community drenched in self-indulgent ego drives.\u00a0 The more your spiritual consciousness evolves, and the lesser the grip of these ego impulses on your consciousness, the more plentiful and spontaneous will be your moments of joyous laughter \u2013 and these dear friends \u2013 are the moments when Divine Consciousness breaks through your human consciousness to lighten you up!\u00a0 Ginormously and immeasurably so\u2026\u00a0 And the more you invite and allow this inflow of Divine Consciousness, the more centered, kind, compassionate, and less reactive you become to the world around you.\u00a0 And that\u2019s Good News<\/i> for all of us!<\/p>\n

Until our next yarn: my hope is that the next time you feel exhausted, it is the result of prolonged, uproarious laughter \u2013 what a gift: Let\u2019s hear it for laughter!<\/p>\n
