Today We All Are Called to Be Disciples<\/h2>\n

Psalm 112:1-9<\/span><\/strong>
\nPraise the LORD!<\/p>\n

Happy are those who fear the LORD, who greatly delight in his commandments.<\/p>\n

Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
\nWealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever.
\nThey rise in the darkness as a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful, and righteous.
\nIt is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice.<\/p>\n

For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever.
\nThey are not afraid of evil tidings; their hearts are firm, secure in the LORD.
\nTheir hearts are steady, they will not be afraid; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
\nThey have distributed freely, they have given to the poor; their righteousness endures forever; their horn is exalted in honor.<\/p>\n

Matthew 5:13-20<\/span><\/strong>
\n\u201cYou are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today we all are called to be
\ndisciples of the Lord,
\nto help to set the captive free,
\nmake plowshare out of sword,
\nto feed the hungry, quench their thirst,
\nmake love and peace our fast,
\nto serve the poor and homeless first,
\nour ease and comfort last.<\/p>\n

God made the world and at its birth
\nordained our human race
\nto live as stewards of the earth,
\nresponding to God\u2019s grace.
\nBut we are vain and sadly proud;
\nwe sow not peace but strife.
\nOur discord spreads a deadly cloud
\nthat threatens all of life.<\/p>\n

Pray justice may come rolling down
\nas in a mighty stream,
\nwith righteousness in field and town
\nto cleanse us and redeem.
\nFor God is longing to restore
\nan earth where conflicts cease,
\na world that was created for
\na harmony of peace.<\/p>\n

May we in service to our God
\nact out the living word,
\nand walk the road the saints have trod
\ntill all have seen and heard.
\nAs stewards of the earth may we
\ngive thanks in one accord
\nto God who calls us all to be
\ndisciples of the Lord.<\/p>\n
