During this time of fear<\/em> and uncertainty in the COVID-19 wilderness, I\u2019ve decided to do something a little different. I\u2019m going to be daily using my blog to share texts and videos of hymns that pass along hope and comfort until the restrictions are lifted, and we can worship in our buildings once again. I hope you find them to be encouraging and edifying during this time.

Honestly, I\u2019ve never had the guts to try this one out in any of the churches I\u2019ve served. But, of course, Lutherans can sing this while sleeping underwater, so here is another fabulous Higher Things recording.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\nChrist Jesus lay in death\u2019s strong bands \nFor our offenses given; \nBut now at God\u2019s right hand He stands \nAnd brings us life from heaven. \nTherefore let us joyful be \nAnd sing to God right thankfully \nLoud songs of alleluia! \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nNo son of man could conquer death, \nSuch ruin sin had wrought us. \nNo innocence was found on earth, \nAnd therefore death had brought us \nInto bondage from of old \nAnd ever grew more strong and bold \nAnd held us as its captive. \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nChrist Jesus, God\u2019s own Son, came down, \nHis people to deliver; \nDestroying sin, He took the crown \nFrom death\u2019s pale brow forever: \nStripped of pow\u2019r, no more it reigns; \nAn empty form alone remains; \nIts sting is lost forever. \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nIt was a strange and dreadful strife \nWhen life and death contended; \nThe victory remained with life, \nThe reign of death was ended. \nHoly Scripture plainly saith \nThat death is swallowed up by death, \nIts sting is lost forever. \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nHere our true Paschal Lamb we see, \nWhom God so freely gave us; \nHe died on the accursed tree\u2013 \nSo strong His love\u2013to save us. \nSee, His blood now marks our door; \nFaith points to it; death passes o\u2019er, \nAnd Satan cannot harm us. \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nSo let us keep the festival \nTo which the Lord invites us; \nChrist is Himself the joy of all, \nThe sun that warms and lights us. \nNow His grace to us imparts \nEternal sunshine to our hearts; \nThe night of sin is ended. \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nThen let us feast this Easter Day \nOn Christ, the bread of heaven; \nThe Word of grace has purged away \nThe old and evil leaven. \nChrist alone our souls will feed; \nHe is our meat and drink indeed; \nFaith lives upon no other! \nAlleluia!<\/p>\nPhoto: \npixabay<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"During this time of fear and uncertainty in the COVID-19 wilderness, I\u2019ve decided to do something a little different.
