<em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em> recently, the Fall telvision and movie previews.\u00a0 I thought I would comb through them and create my own version of each.\u00a0 So here it is, the first ever Pop Theology Fall TV Preview or, rather, the contets to the Pop Theology DVR Box. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/nbcnfl.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-557\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/nbcnfl-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Sunday Night Football<\/em>:\u00a0 The best announcing duo in the business, or at least my favorite.\u00a0 John Madden\u2019s latest iteration of his football game may be full of maddening glitches, but no one states the obvious like he does.\u00a0 There are some interesting matchups here this season with Steelers at Browns (9\/14), Cowboys at Packers (9\/21), and Patriots at Colts (11\/2), to name a few.\u00a0 However, the seven weeks of flex scheduling starting November 16th, makes this the best football slot going.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/the-simpsons.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-544\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/the-simpsons-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Simpsons<\/em>:\u00a0 I wish I could quit you, but having a DVR makes it impossible.\u00a0 What else can they do?\u00a0 Unfortunately, some of the early reports regarding upcoming episodes do not sound all that funny.\u00a0 Seth Rogen\u2019s guest spot might likely be the highlight of the season.\u00a0 I wonder if the election will provide some funny fodder?\u00a0 Unlike past seasons, there seem to be more doubts than assurances here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/family-guy-peter-griffin7.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-545\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/family-guy-peter-griffin7-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Family Guy<\/em>:\u00a0 Seth MacFarlane, the $100,000,000 kid, returns to helm one of the funniest animated series ever.\u00a0 Let\u2019s hope that, unlike his football counterparts, a huge contract doesn\u2019t make him fat and lazy.\u00a0 One upcoming episode:\u00a0 Peter persuades Jesus to quit his job at a used record store.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/trueblood3.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-546\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/trueblood3-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>True Blood<\/em>:\u00a0 Despite negative reviews, I was still excited about this new HBO series about Southern vampires.\u00a0 I caught the first episode which aired on Sunday night and enjoyed it enough to keep watching.\u00a0 Anna Paquin needs to work on that Southern accent, but everyone else gets it \u2019bout right.\u00a0 The whole socio-political parallels are a bit heavy-handed and some of the characters look badly in need of some quick development, but hopefully the show will address these as it progresses.<\/p>\n<p>DVR Gamble of the Night:\u00a0 <em>Valentine <\/em>on The CW, starring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1444665\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jaime Murray<\/a> from <em>Hustle<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/mnf.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-555\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/mnf-300x252.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Monday Night Football<\/em>:\u00a0 It\u2019s Monday night in the Fall, what else does one watch?\u00a0 Thankfully, being on the West Coast allows me to watch the game in its entirety and then catch all the DVR\u2019ed programs below without having to stay up until 2:00 a.m.\u00a0 Scheduled matchups this season include Eagles at Cowboys (9\/15), Vikings at Saints (10\/6), Broncos at Patriots (10\/20), and Packers at Saints (11\/24), the last of which I will hopefully be attending.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/worst.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-556\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/worst-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Worst Week<\/em>:\u00a0 Tim Goodman, TV critic for <em>The San Francisco Chronicle<\/em>, gave this new series a thumbs up on his recent radio show.\u00a0 I think I\u2019ll take his advice and, for the first time in a long time, give a CBS sit-com a shot.\u00a0 Another British transfer, <em>Worst Week<\/em> follows Sam Briggs, a well-meaning but unlucky guy who tries to do right by his newly pregnant girlfriend and her parents.\u00a0 Kurtwood Smith, Red from <em>That \u201970s Show<\/em>, plays her father.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/heroes_l.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-547\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/heroes_l-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Heroes<\/em>:\u00a0 Season 2 was just not that good, but the geek in me watched anyway.\u00a0 Thankfully, a lot of the early responses are positive that the creators have turned it around.\u00a0 The trailers for season three look devilishly good with a focus on a host of villains that our heroes must either combat or join.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/fringe-for-web.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-548\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/fringe-for-web-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Fringe<\/em>:\u00a0 If I were ranking this preview by shows about which I am most excited, Fringe would top the list for sure.\u00a0 Premiering tonight on Fox, <em>Lost <\/em>creator J.J. Abrams\u2019 new show focuses on fringe science.\u00a0 Apparently events happen around the world that scientists must suppress.\u00a0 <em>Chronicle <\/em>television critic Goodman said the first few minutes of tonight\u2019s premier are scary as well.\u00a0 Thankfully, in a way, Abrams breaks with mythology and offers up a series whose episodes find some resolution each week but also contribute to a much bigger picture.\u00a0 The casting of Lance Reddick (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hbo.com\/thewire\/cast\/characters\/cedric_daniels.shtml\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Daniels from <em>The Wire<\/em><\/a>) might be, for me, the highlight of this series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/friday-night-lights9.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-549\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/friday-night-lights9-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Friday Night Lights<\/em>:\u00a0 I have to go over to a friend\u2019s house to watch it on Direct TV\u2026so be it. I am just glad this high school soap opera found a waiting room before returning to NBC in 2009.\u00a0 So much for time with the new baby, Tami (Connie Britton) takes over as the new principal.\u00a0 Domestic confrontations abound.\u00a0 Riggins and Lyla apparently get together\u2026what a great pairing, the boozer and the teetotaler.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/pushing-daisies.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-550\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/pushing-daisies-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Pushing Daisies<\/em>:\u00a0 Eye candy <em>par excellence<\/em>.\u00a0 A television sugar high like no other with the addiction to boot.\u00a0 I can\u2019t get enough of this writing.<\/p>\n<p>DVR Gamble of the Night:\u00a0 <em>Sons of Anarchy<\/em> on FX, starring <em>Hellboy<\/em>\u2018s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000579\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ron Perlman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/selmaandmolly440.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-551\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/selmaandmolly440-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Kath and Kim<\/em>:\u00a0 Selma Blair!\u00a0 Too cute.\u00a0 Molly Shannon.\u00a0 Too annoying!\u00a0 Will this Australian import find its own brand of humor.\u00a0 Clearly there\u2019s enough about crazy suburban American women to spoof.\u00a0 I do find the inclusion of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0383422\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">John Michael Higgins<\/a> (from numerous Christopher Guest projects) an added bonus, however.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/the_office_500.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-552\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/the_office_500-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Office<\/em>: I\u2019m still not a sold-out fan, and it is not because I constantly compare the British and American versions, because I do not.\u00a0 I think the Jim\/Pam relationship is cute at best and boring at worst, but I will still tune in, especially for Dwight, Stanley, and Darryl.\u00a0 Here\u2019s hoping that Amy Ryan sticks around for a while as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/human-tetris2.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-554\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/human-tetris2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Hole in the Wall<\/em>:\u00a0 What television season would be complete without a Japanese import game show?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/crusoe.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-553\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/357\/2008\/09\/crusoe-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Crusoe<\/em>:\u00a0 This is definitely DVR material, and if I get through two episodes, I will be surprised.\u00a0 I am a sucker for period dramas though, and the cast, including Sam Neil and Sean Bean, looks promising.<\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s how the Pop Theology DVR will shape up, at least for now.\u00a0 Of course Fridays are movie nights, so check back soon for the Pop Theology Fall Movie Preview.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I received my favorite issues of Entertainment Weekly recently, the Fall telvision and movie previews.\u00a0 I thought I would comb through them and create my own version of each.\u00a0 So here it is, the first ever Pop Theology Fall TV Preview or, rather, the contets to the Pop Theology DVR Box.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":288,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-538","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-television"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.1 -
