Evidence shows former Baptist pastor and GOP congressional candidate from North Carolina Mark Harris is guilty of election fraud.
Harris was first thought to be the winner in an extremely close election against Democrat Dan McCready with unofficial ballot totals showing Harris ahead by a mere 905 votes. However, evidence now suggests that the Harris campaign cheated by committing election fraud.
As a result of the evidence of election fraud, North Carolina’s State Board of Elections has declined to certify the results of the election given the extraordinary allegations.
According to multiple reports, Harris hired a shady character named Leslie McCrae Dowless to run his voter fraud operation. In a detailed report CNN notes that there is “a slew of evidence” pointing towards election fraud involving mail-in absentee ballots.
The Week reports:
The scandal centers around a man named Leslie McCrae Dowless, who worked for the Harris campaign as an organizer in Bladen County — and was convicted of fraud and perjury back in 1990. Nevertheless, Harris knew him personally and recommended his services to other Republican politicians.
According to reports, Dowless hired operatives to collect absentee ballots from voters. That act alone is illegal, as USA Today reports:
Dowless, a known political operative in the area, is accused of heading a group that would go door-to-door, encouraging people to request an absentee ballot, then go back and collect the ballots and turn them in, which would be an illegal practice. The allegations led to worries about ballot tampering.
However, it gets worse. Many of those ballots collected by Dowless and his crew were never turned-in to be counted. In fact, about half of the absentee ballots were never turned-in. And of course, thoise ballots invariably belonged to Democrats. USA Today notes:
A large majority of those unreturned ballots belonged to African-Americans and Native American voters…
And while Harris claims he was unaware of the voter fraud activity conducted on his behalf, the evidence suggests that Harris was well aware of the tactics used by McCrae Dowless. In fact, Harris even recommended the services of Dowless to former Charlotte city council candidate Pete Givens:
Former #CLTCC candidate Pete Givens confirmed to Channel 9 that Mark Harris introduced him to McCrae Dowless. “Mark told me about this guy’s process… that he had a process.” Harris is Givens’ pastor

More reactions to the story via Twitter:
Anyone who has studied, understood, or been victimized by the politics of the Southern Baptist Convention is not surprised by what Rev Mark Harris’ campaign is accused of doing. In Harris’ world, anything is permissible if it achieves the end of winning for “Jesus.”

Republican Mark Harris should do prison time for this.

#NC09 GOP candidate @MarkHarrisNC9’s campaign appears to have sent people door to door in rural Robeson & Bladen Counties to steal absentee ballots from elderly black voters and complete them for Harris. There were 1300+ such ballots in those counties in a race Harris won by 905. pic.twitter.com/ufJ5vP3TZ2

This is a developing story. Currently there are talks of holding a new election, and possible criminal investigations.
Previously Harris made headlines by suggesting that women are second class citizens, who should serve their husbands.
And only days before the election Harris made headlines after suggesting that there will be no peace until Jews and Muslims convert to Christianity.
Bottom line: Pastor Mark Harris, the Republican candidate for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, was caught cheating and is now embroiled in an election fraud controversy.
