The stupid, it burns: Fox news guest David Avella goes on a rant complaining about homeless people in California who “lay on the street having just shot up with marijuana.”
A Republican strategist on Fox News apparently thought that individuals who use marijuana inject the drug into their bodies.
Avella, a GOP strategist and the president of GOPAC, made his ludicrous claim while appearing as a guest on the Fox News show “Outnumbered.” Discussing new guidelines in San Francisco concerning the status of formerly incarcerated persons, the Republican strategist went on a rant, declaring:
California has tried to clear out their prisons and yet every year they continue to have overcrowded prisons. And the focus ought to be on a society that follows the law, not allowing people to defecate in the streets, not allowing individuals to lay on the street having just shot up with marijuana…
… or heroin and having a needle sticking out of them.
While heroin is a real public health crisis that affects people of all classes, the claim that people are injecting marijuana is simply absurd.
And the internet was quick to point out that Avella is an idiot.
Here is a sample of the reactions to Avella’s absurd claim:

I pivoted from edibles to straight up mainlining back in ‘87. Best decision I ever made. https://t.co/0ZSZh8EhKL
