Conscience rights for abortionists? According to a recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine, that’s exactly what we need. The article, Recognizing Conscience in Abortion Provision, by Lisa H Harris, MD, PhD, makes two main points. The first is that abortionists may feel morally compelled to perform abortions and that they do so in the face of “stigma, marginalization within medicine, harassment and threat of physical harm.” She says that they continue to offer “… abortion care because deeply held,... To Dolan or not to Dolan? That was the question. Cardinal Timothy Dolan and his offer to pray the Benediction at the two political conventions were all the news a few weeks ago. It seems that he offered to pray at both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. The Republicans, who are sharper tacks all around when it comes to currying religious political favor, answered with an immediate yes and then used their publicity machine to spread the word. They... For decades, the American Civil Liberties Union has been the self-appointed defender of civil liberties in this country. When they stood up for prisoner’s rights, I cheered. When they sued to allow members of the KKK to demonstrate peacefully, I was uncomfortable, but I knew it was consistent with the ACLU’s mandate and I respected this consistency. It spoke to me of integrity. But when the ACLU began to twist the Bill of Rights to promote an agenda that furthered... Read more

She could have been me. I didn’t get to that thought at first. My first reaction when I saw the Live Action undercover video The War on Baby Girls was anger. I’ve known this was happening, that women were aborting baby girls because they were baby girls, for quite a while. My sources were nurses and chaplains who work in Oklahoma hospitals. I helped pass a bill which tried, within the straight jacket of Supreme Court rulings on the subject... Read more

Public schools do not offer an equal chance for a good education to all students. Some public schools are excellent. Others are soul-killing factories. From my experience, it seems that this divides along economic lines. Wealthy parents, who have access to private schools for their children, also have the option of sending them to the best public schools. Poorer parents often have no choices. They are forced to send their children to sub-standard, dangerous, inner-city public schools. The deterioration of... Read more
