We\u2019ve got more \u201cevolution\u201d going on in Congress.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In yet another poll-reading flip-flop, Congressman Paul Ryan now says that he supports gay adoption. <\/strong>Ryan was last fall\u2019s vice-presidential candidate \u2014 and the hope of values voters \u2014 on the Republican ticket. One of his first first actions in that race was to weaken his stand on abortion.\u00a0Congressman Ryan voted against allowing homosexuals to adopt children in the past, but that, as they say, was then.<\/p>\n

I doubt very much that he\u2019s evolved on issues such as corporate welfare and taxing the middle class to give to the rich.<\/strong> I\u2019ll bet he still has never met a tank or a gun, a bomb or a war he didn\u2019t like and that his desire to raid social security is as strong today as it was yesterday.<\/p>\n

My quibble here isn\u2019t so much with the Congressman\u2019s opinion itself as that he clearly can\u2019t be trusted to stick with what he says are his values concerning so-called moral issues. <\/strong>Of course, he\u2019s not alone in this. There\u2019s so much \u201cevolving\u201d going on in the political sector that it\u2019s dizzying.<\/p>\n

Maybe these elected officials should just give a proxy for their votes to Gallup polls and save themselves the trouble of going in to work.<\/p>\n

The forum was a town-hall meeting in his home state of\u00a0Wisconsin. Asked a question on gay rights, Ryan said that in 1999 or 2000, he had voted against allowing adoptions by same-sex couples in the\u00a0District of Columbia, but that he\u2019d be a \u201cyea\u201d on that issue if it came up today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe that if there are children who are orphans who do not have a loving person or couple \u2013 I think if a person wants to love and raise a child, they ought to be able to do that. Period. I would vote that way. I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman; we just respectfully disagree on that issue,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n

The Wisconsin lawmaker elaborated a bit on this position in remarks to a\u00a0local television reporter, saying he\u2019d felt that way for years, but he\u2019s never talked about it publicly.
