Chris O\u2019Dowd, who evidently stars in one of those cable series I\u2019ve never watched called Girls, has shared his original thinking on the topic of religion.<\/p>\n

Mr O\u2019Dowd says in an interview with GQ that he used to be \u201cliberal\u201d about religion, and thought it was ok for other people to have ideas he disagreed with. Then, he got his brain washed and now he knows that \u201creligion is ruining the world.\u201d He says that there will be a \u201cturning point\u201d where religion is \u201cgoing to be like racism.\u201d Because people will decide \u201cyou\u2019re not allowed to say that! It\u2019s mad!\u201d<\/p>\n

He also informs us that President Obama lies when he says he\u2019s a Christian, telling us, \u201cI mean, you really think that Barack Obama believes in God? No way!\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a bit difficult to take these deep thoughts seriously, so I don\u2019t think I will. Take them seriously, that is. I mean, (to quote Mr O\u2019Dowd) let\u2019s look at what he said.<\/p>\n

Religion is ruining the world.<\/em> That one\u2019s pretty well been done to death.<\/p>\n

People will decide you\u2019re not allowed to say that. <\/em>How many times, in how many ways, have we seen attacks on religious people\u2019s right to freedom of speech? I doubt if this thoughtful young actor understands that\u2019s what he\u2019s supporting, btw. I think he\u2019s just repeating something he heard someone else say and probably doesn\u2019t understand its implications.<\/p>\n

President Obama is not a Christian?\u00a0<\/em>Do tell.<\/p>\n

All in all, what this interview shows \u2014 as if we needed to be shown \u2014 is the level of non-thinking that goes into bashing religious people in our society. It also demonstrates why the programming we see on television is so biased against faith.<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t take Mr O\u2019Dowd\u2019s thinking too seriously. There\u2019s not an original idea here. If his industry\u2019s opinion changes, he\u2019ll get his brain washed again and say something else that\u2019s just as deep and thoughtful as this.<\/p>\n

The Irish star of films such as\u00a0The Sapphires<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Bridesmaids<\/span>\u00a0says he grew up respecting people of faith despite his atheist views, but has become \u201cless liberal\u201d as he ages.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>

Now he says religious doctrine is halting human progress and brands it \u201ca weird cult\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>

He also thinks US president Barack Obama had to overstate his Christian faith in order to get to the White House.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>

O\u2019Dowd has told Britain\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>GQ\u00a0<\/span>magazine: \u201cFor most of my life, I\u2019ve been, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m not into it, but I respect your right to believe whatever you want\u2019. But as time goes on, weirdly, I\u2019m growing less liberal. I\u2019m more like, \u2018No, religion is ruining the world, you need to stop!\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/p>

\u201cThere\u2019s going to be a turning point where it\u2019s going to be like racism. You know, \u2018You\u2019re not allowed to say that weird s**t! It\u2019s mad! And you\u2019re making everybody crazy!\u2019<\/p>\n
