Vatican News<\/a>:<\/p>\nTurning his attention to the third Beatitude of Matthew\u2019s Gospel \u2013 \u201cBlessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth\u201d \u2013 Pope Francis said a meek person is kind and shuns violence, refusing to grow angry when passions run high.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone can seem meek when all is calm,\u201d he told pilgrims at the General Audience in the Paul VI Hall, \u201cbut how do we react when \u2018under pressure\u2019 or are attacked, offended, or assaulted?\u201d<\/p>\n
Jesus, said the Pope, is a model of meekness especially in how He suffered the Passion.<\/p>\n
Meekness vs. anger<\/h2>\n
The Pope went on to describe the traits of a meek disciple of Christ.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe or she has learned to defend their peace, their relationship with God, and the gifts of God: mercy, fraternity, trust, and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anger, said Pope Francis, is the opposite of meekness, and destroys many important things when left uncontrolled.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnger has caused many brothers to cease speaking to one another,\u201d he said. \u201cMeekness unites; anger divides.\u201d<\/p>\n
A person who is meek, concluded the Pope, is able to \u201cwin over hearts and save friendships, because people get angry but then they calm down.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is how we can rebuild relationships with meekness.\u201d<\/p>\n
