Now, I look for the right light, and take pictures over and over, contorting myself into strange positions until the object I am photographing is illuminated just right.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">One day recently, as I did my strange little photographic light dance around a small clump of moss, I thought about the application of this lesson\u00a0to my spiritual life.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">I entered religious life intent on living a radical life like Jesus: poor, chaste and obedient. I want to live religious life faithfully so that Christ is formed in me, as St. Paul tells us is possible in his letter to the Galatians (4:19).<\/span><br><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">This is a lofty goal, but I want to preach Jesus to the world \u2013 what better way than through my life?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">But\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">I have quickly found this to be much more easily said than done.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">Community life quickly dispels any illusions one might have that they are good at loving other people.\u00a0<\/span><br><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">I have found that I am\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">particularly<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">bad at imitating Jesus\u2019 love for others. I am bad at pretending in general. If I feel something, chances are you will see it written on my face. I have tried my best to act like I think Jesus would but\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">I have come to accept that I am just like a poor photograph: dull, bad light, someone\u2019s thumb in the corner. Yup, that is pretty much me. Because I know myself, I try my best to catch the light just right so that I can be lit up by God\u2019s light and act like Jesus. I dance around on one foot, turn upside down, and do all kinds of crazy things, trying to imitate or capture God\u2019s light in my life, if only for a fleeting moment.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">But here is the thing that God helped me to understand: I have already captured the light, (or it has captured me). <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\">\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"float: left;margin-right: 1em;text-align: left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/485\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-TvpIvdmW8rE\/UGDAijqelAI\/AAAAAAAAAhw\/fxIUtrJAbRQ\/s1600\/IMG_0039.JPG\" style=\"clear: left;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/485\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-TvpIvdmW8rE\/UGDAijqelAI\/AAAAAAAAAhw\/fxIUtrJAbRQ\/s320\/IMG_0039.JPG\" width=\"240\"><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align: center\">a community of mushrooms<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">The light, the entire blessed Trinity, God himself, DIVINITY itself is inside of me.\u00a0This is not some\u00a0hokey,\u00a0New Age nonsense.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">This is possible because Jesus\u2019 incarnation brought our humanity as close as possible to the Godhead.\u00a0The second person of the Trinity has a human body! Jesus\u2019\u00a0humanity is like an extension cord, plugging us into the power of the God.\u00a0<\/span><br><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><br><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">Through our baptism, God has made a dwelling place inside of us. Not because we are the bee\u2019s knees, but because He loves us and wants to act through our lives.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">Christian theology is the only theology that accepts our humble creaturehood, our very limited, finite nature, but at the same time, precisely through accepting this reality, it acknowledges that we are able to become like God.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">This is key to living out the power of our baptism.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">When we cannot love, when we cannot forgive, when we cannot follow Jesus\u2019 commandments to love our neighbor as ourselves, we have direct access to God living <i>right within us<\/i>.<\/span><span style=\"color: blue\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">God can love<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-family: Georgia\">through<\/i><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">us. God can forgive<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-family: Georgia\">through<\/i><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">us. God can turn the other cheek<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-family: Georgia\">through<\/i><span class=\"apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">us.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">This deeper realization of the gift of my baptism has changed my approach to love. Instead of gritting my teeth and trying to fake it, I just ask God to love for me. In a way, I feel a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders. I had been trying my best to love like Jesus, but it was truly impossible. Only Jesus can love like Jesus.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">So now, when I am feeling like I cannot love someone else, I ask Jesus to do it for me because I know he is much better at loving than I am.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><br>I still sin, I still fail. This is not the silver bullet to sainthood. But I am more confident knowing that the responsibility is not mine. God, who is<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><i>right inside of me<\/i>, can others love for me.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><br>These are all things that we may have known intellectually but in order to really live the power of the indwelling of the Trinity within us, it must become something we know on a deeper level.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">Here are some things that I am going to do to grow in my understanding of this mystery:<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #cccccc;border: 2px dotted #666;padding: 8px\"><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">1. Meditate on the gift of baptism using\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">paragraphs 1213-84\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/archive\/ccc_css\/archive\/catechism\/p2s2c1a1.htm\" style=\"font-family: Georgia\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Catechism<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">2. Take some time to pray with the presence of the Trinity inside of you using the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/john\/14\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">14:23<\/a>).<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif\"><br><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt;margin: 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif\">3. Pray with the words of the Saints:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif\">St Elizabeth of the Trinity\u2019s\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholic-forum.com\/saints\/ste46001.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">prayer<\/a>\u00a0asking the Trinity to act in her<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif\">Blessed James Alberione\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alberione.org\/beatificazione\/DonAlberione\/preghiera_eng.htm#Trinity\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">prayer<\/a>\u00a0invoking the Trinity dwelling within us<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif\">St. Augustine\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholiconline.com\/prayers\/prayer.php?p=334\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">prayer <\/a>for the indwelling of the Spirit<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif\">4. Go to confession. When we commit mortal sin, we have asked the indwelling of the Trinity to leave our souls. In confession, we show sorrow for our sins and invite the Trinity to once again dwell in our soul. Even if we are not in a state of mortal sin, confession helps unify us ever more to the Trinity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>5. Receive the Eucharist with greater frequency. Through sanctifying grace, we can attain greater union with the Trinity when we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, (for more information on the theology behind this check out this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therealpresence.org\/archives\/Grace\/Grace_004.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">webpage<\/a>)<span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia\">Feel free to try it out with me!<\/span>\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>an ethereal clump of moss Photography is all about light.
