For example, blue was once more closely associated with \u201cfeminine\u201d while pink was associated with \u201cmasculine.\u201d In parts of Europe, it\u2019s still not unusual for men to greet one another with kisses; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiayogaretreat.com\/women_lgbt.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">India,<\/a> you might see two male friends walking arm in arm. And we have many examples of renaissance poetry\u2014essentially love poetry\u2014written by and for non-homosexual males who were <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Romantic_friendship%23Examples_of_historical_romantic_friendship\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">close friends.<\/a> By looking to other times and other places, we can see that masculinity is a way of behaving culturally that looks different in different times and places.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And here are some things that other people have been saying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cyou seem uninformed\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThere\u2019s a reason that throughout human history and in any cultural context patriarchy was THE norm\u2013feminist thinking will go the way of the dodo. It\u2019s only a matter of time.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCT tries to tie a scholarly ribbon in [her] hair\u201d (that one\u2019s from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dougwils.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Douglas Wilson<\/a>. BTW, Mr. Wilson, I don\u2019t claim to be a scholar. I just claim the covenant covering of my husband\u2019s Ph.D. We\u2019re one flesh and he is my Head, after all.)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRachel is promoting is a damnable heresy that will bring many women (and men), including herself to everlasting perdition in hell! \u201c<\/li>\n<li>\u201cput down your donuts and pick up a Bible.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(I happened to mention that bit at the dinner table, and my 6 year old son said, \u201cAnybody who says \u2018put down your donuts and pick up a Bible\u2019 is a bully.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/bible.oremus.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Out of the mouths of babes.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>A commenter named Scott Allen also said:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWomen use church as a hammer to make men [\u2026] fit their norms. They substitute Precious Moments thoughts for actual Biblical teaching.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scott Allen, this one is for you\u2013<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1914\" title=\"Jael\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/484\/2012\/02\/jael.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"692\" height=\"548\"><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>But there are other comments, too, like this one, which has given me the very best kind of encouragement a writer could hope for (thanks, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/mrshotch\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Natalie!<\/a>)\u2013<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s articles like this that shed light on something I\u2019ve begun to notice on my own: there is an emphasis on masculinity in the Reformed tradition that alienates women (and disabled men like my husband who has progressive MS). For the first time in months, I was encouraged by what you wrote in your post on this matter. Thank you so much for giving me a beacon of light in the foggy world of my strange circumstances.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bet you can\u2019t wait to read it!
