Okay\u2026so I had this whole clever plan to make a video of how stupid easy it it to make homemade mayonnaise. It really wasn\u2019t for you, it was for a friend of mine who doesn\u2019t believe me that it only take about 45 seconds to whip it up and I thought to myself \u201cSelf, you need a blog post for today anyway\u2026so maybe the internets don\u2019t know how to make mayonnaise either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I was all\u2026 \u201cSCORE!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then I did what any normal mom would do, and forced my 13 year old to record me making mayonnaise. He was thrilled. Really. See?<\/p>\n

\"LG\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I was almost done with it when I made a \u201cThat\u2019s what she said\u201d joke because it was funny, and I really do<\/em> have the sense of humor of a 13-year-old boy\u2026not my <\/em>13-year-old boy obviously, because he looked shocked and said \u201cMom! You can\u2019t say that on your blog!!! You\u2019re going to offend people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

But I totally stood up for you and said that my blog readers have a sense of humor and know how to take a joke,<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t believe me that the Catholic blogosphere is funny and reminded me of the time I wrote how God has a sense of humor<\/a> and got emails from people telling me that I was going to Hell because God isn\u2019t really funny and the best response I could come up with was \u201cUmmm\u2026yeah<\/em>\u2026he is\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then he deleted the whole video and told me that I wasn\u2019t as funny as I thought I was, even though his 14 year-old brother was snorting with laughter\u2026so maybe I\u2019m more mature than I thought I was? Coolness.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Anyway, here I was with a blender full of mayonnaise, no video, and no more olive oil\u2026which means this whole blog post took a left turn at Albuquerque.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s the deal, I made a mayonnaise video to show my friend how,\u00a0 and to share it with you because it\u2019s easy and so much healthier, and we\u2019ll need again on another Wednesday recipe thing I\u2019m sure. Plus it tastes so much better than anything that comes in a jar, so you might want to try it. Also, I forgot to take a picture of the mayo itself, but here\u2019s the egg salad I made with it. (This is why I\u2019ll never be a food blogger.)<\/p>\n

I know you thought I\u2019d never get here, but here\u2019s how to whip up a little mayo!!!<\/p>\n

Homemade Mayonnaise<\/p>\n

Ingredients<\/span><\/p>\n

1 Large Egg (This is one place in life where size really does<\/em> matter)<\/p>\n

1 cup extra light olive oil (or other oil you prefer like avocado, almond, etc)<\/p>\n

2-3 tsp lemon juice (about half a lemon. You can use vinegar if you\u2019re in a pinch. If you don\u2019t like the tartness, you can<\/em> use a tsp of water instead)<\/p>\n

a pinch of salt<\/p>\n

Directions<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Put all the ingredients into a blender or food processor and give it a couple of seconds for the egg to sink to the bottom.<\/p>\n

2. Turn it on high.<\/p>\n

3. Wait about 30-45 seconds.<\/p>\n

4. Once it\u2019s white and fluffy, turn it off because it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n

5. Yes, I\u2019m serious. That\u2019s it!<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve mastered making this ridiculously easy recipe, you can play with the flavor by adding a dollop of mustard, or garlic, or fresh herbs, or chili peppers, or anything you want to try.<\/p>\n
