I sat down last night to write a reply to someone who had written asking my opinion on the inappropriateness of guitar music at Mass. Why they would ask the opinion of someone who is notoriously un-musical<\/a>, I can\u2019t say. What I can<\/em> tell you is that I love the sound of guitars in church.<\/p>\nMaybe it\u2019s being raised Catholic in the 70s and 80s, or the fact that my father and brother both play the guitar beautifully, but I find that there is something honest in guitar music played well.<\/p>\n<\/embed><\/object><\/a><\/p>\nAs with most things Catholic, there\u2019s a lot to be said for tone and intention.<\/p>\nLike I said, I began to write about why we need to be nicer to the guitar guys, but YouTube being an unending rabbit trail from one video to the next\u2026I got completely sucked into this<\/p>\n<\/embed><\/object><\/a><\/p>\nMaybe we need to stop asking why there are guitars at Mass, and start asking why there aren\u2019t more water goblets\u2026because\u2026 WOW.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I sat down last night to write a reply to someone who had written asking my opinion on the inappropriateness of guitar music at Mass. Like I said, I began to write about why we need to be nicer to the guitar guys, but YouTube being an unending rabbit trail from one video to the next\u2026I got completely sucked into this<\/p>\n
