It\u2019s been raining here in Texas for what seems like forever and a day. The ground is saturated, the lakes are overflowing their banks, and my children are stuck inside for most of the day. We\u2019re starting to go a little mad around here.<\/p>\n

I had been letting the children go and splash in all the puddles in front of our house and dance in the rain (while I stayed inside in the dry) until we spotted a water moccasin slinking around our trash can over the weekend. The flooding at the creek has driven all of the snakes and other critters out of the nature preserve at the end of our street and right up into all of our yards. Now the kids aren\u2019t playing outside until I\u2019ve inspected the area and the equipment thoroughly. (The snake died a swift death, so the trash cans are secure for now.)<\/p>\n

After the drought of the past few years, the rain was initially a welcome change. Then it became an annoyance. Now it\u2019s damnable (if you listen to my grandma**, and I always do.)<\/p>\n

The 4 foot wide, 6 inch deep creek near our house. There\u2019s a walking bridge with a 3 foot high handrail somewhere under all that water.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>We\u2019ve been in such a severe drought that the rain seemed like a good idea for a while, but now it\u2019s just seeming like divine hyperbole. It\u2019s wet now, we get it. Maybe it\u2019s time to focus some of this in California\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n
