{"id":425,"date":"2012-07-21T20:58:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-21T20:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/rebeccafrech\/2012\/07\/homeless.html"},"modified":"2014-08-22T15:48:30","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T20:48:30","slug":"homeless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/rebeccafrech\/2012\/07\/homeless.html","title":{"rendered":"Homeless"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>I miss my husband.\u00a0 He\u2019s been in Turkey for a solid week, and I miss  him.\u00a0 What\u2019s funny is that he\u2019s rarely home even when he\u2019s here but  somehow not here across town is totally different from not home half a  world away.\u00a0 His presence is comfort to me.\u00a0 He is home.\u00a0 So when he\u2019s  gone\u2026.where am I?\u00a0 It\u2019s why I feel so unsettled.\u00a0 He is my home and he\u2019s in a place whose name I\u2019m not sure how to pronounce correctly. What does that make the place where <i>I <\/i>am?\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure.<\/p>\n<p>He calls us every day around lunchtime. I lean back in my chair and close my eyes.\u00a0 I can picture his face as he tells me about the events of his day.\u00a0 I can hear the exhaustion and I know how his eyes look. I can hear the smile in his voice when we talk about the children, and I know the smile lines are there at the corner of his mouth.\u00a0 When he laughs, I can see the way his cheeks move and his eyes crinkle.\u00a0 I know how he looks.\u00a0 After 16 years together, he is so familiar to me that I don\u2019t need to see him to know how he looks.<\/p>\n<p>There is something to be said for the occasional traveling that he does.\u00a0 His warm presence is somehow less noticeable when he is here all the time.\u00a0 It takes its absence to remind me of exactly how dear it is to me.\u00a0 In the quiet of the evening, when the children are in bed and we are reading side by side, I take that comfort for granted too often.\u00a0 On nights like tonight, when all the children are in bed and it\u2019s just me alone downstairs with the sounds of the dishwasher and the snoring dog, I miss even his silence.<\/p>\n<p>One more week and then he will come home.\u00a0 I will wrap my arms around him, and bury my face into his neck, and home will have returned to me.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I miss my husband.\u00a0 He\u2019s been in Turkey for a solid week, and I miss him.\u00a0 What\u2019s funny is that he\u2019s rarely home even when he\u2019s here but somehow not here across town is totally different from not home half a world away.\u00a0 His presence is comfort to me.\u00a0 He is home.\u00a0 So when he\u2019s [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1979,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-425","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Homeless<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"I miss my husband.&nbsp;
