I\u2019ve had enough.\u00a0 Will someone tell the religious right and the Conservative caucuses?\u00a0 I agree with 99% of what they say they believe (I don\u2019t actually know what percentage I agree with, but it\u2019s certainly most of it), but I can\u2019t take the boycotts any more. I just can\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n

It stated innocently enough 10 years back or so when the owner of Hormel foods made some anti-Catholic remarks and even funded an anti-Catholic group<\/a>. I\u2019ve never been a huge fan of canned chili anyway (the homemade stuff is easy and cheap enough) and other people make pepperoni, so it was easy enough to keep his products out of my shopping cart.<\/p>\n

Then a friend told me that she didn\u2019t buy Proctor & Gamble products because they were cruel to the animals they test stuff on<\/a>, which is why I shouldn\u2019t buy them. I\u2019m not in favor of harming sweet little bunnies, so I checked the list of stuff they make (holy buckets they make a lot of stuff<\/a>!), and heaved a sigh of relief.\u00a0 We were poor and their stuff was too expensive for us except for Crest toothpaste.\u00a0 I switched to Colgate and congratulated myself for my moral superiority.<\/p>\n

I read about the mean things KFC does to chickens (I couldn\u2019t find a link that wasn\u2019t disturbing.\u00a0 I\u2019m not linking to that.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s necessary to show it in its glory.\u00a0 Google it yourself.).\u00a0 I resolved that Popeye\u2019s was the place for us.<\/p>\n

Susan G Komen funded Planned Parenthood and I stopped buying anything pink (except girl clothes).\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even look for the dumb ribbon.\u00a0 If it was that SGK shade of pink, I just left it on the shelf.\u00a0 It killed me not to get the cute mixer, but I like babies better.\u00a0 I got the green one instead. (Yay me!)<\/p>\n

Then Disney offered benefits to the same sex partners of their employees, and gay groups started having Family Pride Day<\/a> at the parks.\u00a0 The Christians I knew started throwing out their VHS tapes and banning all things Disney from their homes.\u00a0 I tried to kick it out of my house, and mostly succeeded\u2026..except for my 2 year old who loved Cinderella.\u00a0 She had an old tape she watched daily, and a tattered costume she had worn until the hem fell out.\u00a0 I let her keep them.\u00a0 I simply resolved to buy nothing new\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026\u2026which left us with very little for her to play with and very few house where she could go. What was the alternative?\u00a0 Bratz?\u00a0 No thank you.\u00a0 I\u2019ll take Cinderella and Snow White any day of the week.\u00a0 We weren\u2019t buying any more\u2026.but I wasn\u2019t going to take away the make believe she loved.<\/p>\n

So grandma bought it for her. (We weren\u2019t on great terms at the time.\u00a0 A civil war wasn\u2019t worth risking.)<\/p>\n

I tried to keep up with what we weren\u2019t buying now, but the list kept growing. We had to stay away from all toothpaste manufacturers.\u00a0 I can\u2019t find a single one who doesn\u2019t support gay marriage, planned parenthood, or test on animals.\u00a0 (In fact, that torturing animals thing is starting to look minor.\u00a0 I\u2019m beginning to shrug my shoulders at it.\u00a0 Animals testing? eh.\u00a0 Worse things happen at sea.)<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t figure out where to go on date night with my husband any longer.\u00a0 Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc all support Planned Parenthood.\u00a0 McDonald\u2019s has pink slime, and there\u2019s only so much Chick Fil A a girl can eat.<\/p>\n

The truth is I can\u2019t keep track of them all.\u00a0 There are too many things to boycott and I no longer think it makes a difference.\u00a0 Companies would rather tick of the conservatives among us than be called intolerant.\u00a0 They\u2019ve also reached a saturation point at which we have run out of options. We can sit around with funky breath, rank laundry, stinky bodies, and no oreos\u2026\u2026or we can come up with something new.<\/p>\n

I vote for new, because this boycott thing isn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n

A friend of mine told me that this was all a cop out because it was too hard for me and I just don\u2019t want to make the effort.\u00a0 She\u2019s right.\u00a0 I\u2019m copping out. I\u2019m not going to burn all of this time, effort, and energy on something that makes no difference at all.\u00a0 I\u2019m willing to make my own laundry detergent and eat the store brand of cookies\u2026.but Wal Mart is killing small business and the fluoride in the water is killing us all!<\/p>\n

In just the past week, I\u2019ve gotten emails calling for me to boycott 37 companies, products, television shows, and media outlets.\u00a0 That\u2019s just one week. It wasn\u2019t a special week.\u00a0 It\u2019s the average of what I get in my inbox.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s too much.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s what I\u2019m doing.\u00a0 I\u2019m not buying the pink stuff because their flip-flop earlier this year just ticked me off.\u00a0 My daughter won\u2019t be a Girl Scout \u2026.because don\u2019t use my kid to push your political agenda, that\u2019s why. And I\u2019m still not buying Hormel.\u00a0 That dude is crazy, and I try to stay away from crazy folks.<\/p>\n

Other than that\u2026I\u2019m buying what I like.\u00a0 The boycotters have overwhelmed me and made my life impossible if I try to get with the program.\u00a0 It would be worth it if it worked\u2026..<\/p>\n

so here\u2019s the deal\u2026\u2026come up with something new and let me know what it is.\u00a0 Until then, I\u2019m praying and doing my best to raise moral children.\u00a0 It\u2019s the best I can do.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
