I must confess that I am a bit of a hypochondriac where my children are concerned.\u00a0 Their health is my responsibility.\u00a0 They could live or die on the decisions I make for their care.\u00a0 It makes me a little nuts.\u00a0 There\u2019s not a spot that they get that isn\u2019t the chicken pox (We\u2019re all going to die!) or a croupy cough that isn\u2019t pneumonia (We\u2019re all going to die!).\u00a0 I freak out in the beginning\u2026always\u2026and then gather my wits and figure out what\u2019s really going on with them (heat rash or allergies usually).\u00a0 Then life goes back to normal and I calm down until the next spot appears (Measles!\u00a0 We\u2019re all going to die!\u00a0 I don\u2019t care that they were vaccinated!)<\/p>\n
That\u2019s where I find myself with #4\u2019s knee.\u00a0 I freaked out and took her to the ER.\u00a0 She had an appointment with an orthopedist the next day, but the joint was hot.\u00a0 I freaked out and took her to the hospital.\u00a0 Somewhere in the back of my mind was a calm voice telling me that this was just my normal parenting style which usually turns out to be nothing serious and that life would go on as normal.\u00a0 I waited for someone to find a bug bite or evidence of an injury, but they didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n
We got a referral to a pediatric rheumatologist, but can\u2019t get in until March 4th.\u00a0 Part of me was outraged that she would have to wait so long in pain with her swollen knee.\u00a0 The rest of me was calm.\u00a0 It would go down.\u00a0 We\u2019d never actually need the appointment.\u00a0 It would turn out to be an injury of some kind or a weird allergic reaction to air.<\/p>\n
That hasn\u2019t happened yet.<\/p>\n
My husband and our sweet Oma keep telling me that they think it looks better.\u00a0 I want to be reassured, but it looks the same to me.\u00a0 It feels the same to her, but they are so certain.\u00a0 Am I paranoid or is it like the emperor\u2019s clothes?\u00a0 Are they seeing what they want to see?\u00a0 How can it not be better?<\/p>\n
We\u2019re rapidly approaching the time when all hope of an injury or freak bug bite will be past.\u00a0 We\u2019re getting to the point where an injury would be healing.\u00a0 I asked a friend of mine, one of those great friends who just tells the truth even when it\u2019s ugly to hear, if it looked better to her.\u00a0 She gave me an emphatic \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n
Damn.<\/p>\n
Two weeks until the rheumatologist.\u00a0 Please let me be paranoid.\u00a0 Please let me be a freaked out hypochondriac.\u00a0 Please?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
