I flashed what I hoped was a friendly smile to the group of moms at the neighborhood pool as my hand unconsciously found its way to the top of the lump that is my middle.\u00a0\u00a0 On the way?\u00a0 I contemplated again at this socially acceptable description of my daughter.\u00a0 As her heel thrust up determinedly against the palm of my hand I wondered where exactly she was now?\u00a0 If she\u2019s not here, where is she?\u00a0<\/p>\n
What other people see as an obviously pregnant belly moves in ripples and lumps which are unseen to most others.\u00a0 Inside her safe haven, she stretches, twists, settles in and then begins it all again.\u00a0 I can feel her sleeping, hiccuping, and startling.\u00a0 She moves toward he father\u2019s voice and retreats from the two year old\u2019s shrieks.\u00a0 She is wonderfully and beautifully alive.\u00a0 But she\u2019s still just \u201con the way.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n
\u201cWow. So you\u2019re going to have seven?\u201d One of the moms asked me.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo.\u201d I answered her.\u00a0 \u201cI already have seven.\u00a0 The youngest one just hasn\u2019t been born yet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her face lit up with a smile.\u00a0 \u201cGood for you,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
