My sweet mother-in-law called me last week to update us on their upcoming move. (We\u2019re all moving this summer.\u00a0 Us to Dallas, them to Kentucky.) Then after a pause, she asked:<\/p>\n

MIL : \u201cI just wanted to know if you have plans for the 4th of July?\u201d<\/p>\n

me: \u201cNot yet.\u00a0 Why?\u201d<\/p>\n

MIL: \u201cWe\u2019ll be driving home that weekend after house hunting and would love to see you, the children, and the new house.\u201d<\/p>\n

me: \u201cYou know\u2026if you stay through the 5th you can come with us to the ultasound and find out if #7 is a boy or girl when we do.\u00a0 Want a sneak peek at your newest grandchild?\u201d<\/p>\n

MIL : paused for a moment, then \u201cWill I be able to figure out what I\u2019m seeing?\u00a0 You always send me these ultrasound pictures and I\u2019ll admit that I never see in them what you say is in them.\u00a0 I look and look, but I just can\u2019t see it.\u00a0 I keep them all and label them with the children\u2019s names, because those are my babies and I love them and that you send the photos\u2026.but will it make more sense to see it in motion?\u201d<\/p>\n

me: laughing \u201cI think so.\u00a0 You haven\u2019t understood any of them.\u00a0 Even the ones we\u2019ve explained in person?\u201d<\/p>\n

MIL: \u201cNo, dear, but that\u2019s okay.\u00a0 I believe you that that\u2019s my baby somewhere in the blob and love that you try.\u201d<\/p>\n

I love her.\u00a0 I love that she keeps the pictures of blobs she doesn\u2019t recognize, labels and treasures them because somewhere on that black and white graininess is a baby she adores.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
