\u201cSo, do you have names picked out yet?\u201d<\/p>\n
I must get asked that question a couple times a week, most recently by the two pregnant ladies at the pool who had just said they were looking for ideas and that my children all have such interesting names.\u00a0 I see what you\u2019re doing there\u2026.but no, we have nothing definite planned.<\/p>\n
The Computer Guy and I tend to lean toward more off-beat names and then settle on something a bit closer to normal.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been told that our baby names are all over the place, following no discernible pattern.\u00a0 I\u2019d agree with that.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never once thought, \u201cthe children are named 1, 2, 3, and 4\u2026.I wonder what would sound good with that.\u201d\u00a0 I know people who do, it just doesn\u2019t occur to me.\u00a0 We tend to think of each new person as an individual and think about what name we like for them<\/i>.<\/p>\n
The truth is, I do have a name I\u2019m feeling comfortable with for #7, provided she\u2019s a she and not a he (we find out in 3 weeks), but it\u2019s a bit out there.\u00a0 I prayed about guidance for names, because I\u2019ll be honest with you, I\u2019m running out of fresh ideas, so I asked God for a suggestion.\u00a0 I got a pretty clear answer, and while it\u2019s possible He\u2019s messing with me a la Horatio, it\u2019s possible that He\u2019s serious.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a name that was ever on my radar\u2026.ever.\u00a0 I mentioned it to my husband who reminded me that while God can suggest things, we still have free will.\u00a0 So, I told my teenager who usually shares my off-beat appreciation for things.\u00a0 She\u2019s not sold on it.\u00a0 Then I found out that a person with that name had her cause for sainthood opened on the date of conception.\u00a0 Could she be offering to look out for our newbie?<\/p>\n
Am I losing my mind?\u00a0 Possibly.\u00a0 The thing is, we have one girl name I like and he\u2019s not sure that he cares for.\u00a0 He has a girl name he likes that I think is way<\/i> too common.\u00a0 We have a couple boy names we\u2019re tossing around for fun right now.\u00a0 Because this is one of the fun parts of parenthood.\u00a0 We get to pick their names.\u00a0 For a moment in our imaginations, they can be anyone we want them to be before we settle down to who they are.<\/p>\n
In the past, we\u2019ve told people the names we were considering only to be forced to listen to diatribes against names we loved and advice on what names would be a better choice and why.\u00a0 We\u2019re on #7.\u00a0 Just this once, it would be nice to get to pick one and use it without a chorus of opinions.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to just say \u201cthis is our new baby, ________.\u201d People can roll their eyes and whisper about it behind our backs, but I doubt anyone will say \u201creally?\u201d to our faces.\u00a0 That will just be his\/her name and the world will smile back, because it\u2019s hard not to smile when you look new life in the face.<\/p>\n
So, this time we\u2019re going it alone.\u00a0 We\u2019re keeping it to ourselves and maybe from the children (because they blab, the big-mouths).\u00a0 I can guarantee you only one thing, it won\u2019t be Horatio.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
