I was in Ikea two days ago buying shelves when I overheard a conversation between two well dressed 20-somethings.\u00a0 (I admit to following them for a few minutes to catch the end of this exchange.)<\/p>\n
Him: You know my mom hasn\u2019t worked in like 6 years?
Her: Really?\u00a0 What is she doing instead?
Him: Nothing.\u00a0 She just stays home and sponges off my dad.
Her: She doesn\u2019t do anything at all?
Him: Oh\u2026she like cooks and cleans stuff and spends all his money.
Her: And he\u2019s okay with that?
Him: He seems to be.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know why though.\u00a0 I\u2019d be p*$$ed as hell. I mean\u2026..why can\u2019t she get a real job?
Her:\u00a0 Weird.\u00a0 Maybe she\u2019s good in bed.
Him:\u00a0 Ewww.\u00a0 That\u2019s my mom you\u2019re talking about.
Both laugh and then change the subject.<\/p>\n
I just stopped for a moment in the aisle with my mouth hanging open.\u00a0 That didn\u2019t used to be called sponging, it was called \u201cbeing his wife.\u201d\u00a0 I particularly liked how he couldn\u2019t just be okay with it because he\u2019s okay with it, but she has to be doing something else<\/i> to earn her keep.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was such an honest look at how the younger generations view my life, because I too \u201cjust\u201d cook, clean and spend \u201chis\u201d money.\u00a0 Please may my own children never talk about my in such disrespectful ways.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
