{"id":638,"date":"2011-05-29T20:40:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-29T20:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/rebeccafrech\/2011\/05\/g-t-t.html"},"modified":"2014-08-22T15:49:34","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T20:49:34","slug":"g-t-t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/rebeccafrech\/2011\/05\/g-t-t.html","title":{"rendered":"G.T.T."},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>In times past, people would leave their old lives and leave notes which simply read \u201cG.T.T.\u201d and their loved ones knew\u2026they\u2019d Gone To Texas.\u00a0 Well, so have we.<\/p>\n<p>We were chased out of town last Tuesday by the awful tornadoes which decimated so many.\u00a0 They were a blessing to me.\u00a0 Just as I was beginning to get weepy over leaving home, my friend Peace called to say \u201cIt\u2019s headed right for you.\u00a0 Get to cover or get out.\u00a0 You have about 30 minutes.\u201d\u00a0 With no time for long last looks or tearful goodbyes, we threw the last of our suitcases in the car and left home for the last time.<\/p>\n<p>We spent our last night in Oklahoma at our beloved Oma and Opa\u2019s house.\u00a0 Wednesday morning we left for Texas.\u00a0 By Thursday night, we were sleeping in our own beds and doing our best to ignore the strangeness of our surroundings.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t that hard as we were all so tired.<\/p>\n<p>So\u2026..here we are in Texas, all but my husband who will join us this week.\u00a0 We\u2019re finding our way around and figuring out how to get to where we need to be.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t feel like home yet but it will.\u00a0 Today I got home from the grocery store without the GPS and only took one wrong turn.\u00a0 If you could see the maze that is our neighborhood, you\u2019d know what an accomplishment that is.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas people aren\u2019t as friendly as the Okies we left behind.\u00a0 It\u2019s not Texans, but big city folks, I think.\u00a0 I miss the friendly.\u00a0 I especially missed it this morning at Mass when no one said hello or even smiled in our direction.\u00a0 I told my eldest that that \u201cnever would have happened at our church back home.\u201d\u00a0 She smiled and said \u201cThat\u2019s because you were the person who always told new people hello.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s who I need to be here, I think.\u00a0 I need to be the person who says hello.\u00a0 I need to be the person who walks up to the clumps of talking people and introduces myself to them all.\u00a0 What I wouldn\u2019t give for a friendly glance or a welcoming smile, some indication that such overtures would be welcome.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never been a wallflower, but it\u2019s rare that I\u2019ve met such an unwelcoming crowd\u2026.but then again I was on my own home turf so it was easier to be bold and friendly.<\/p>\n<p>Who knew that I would ever need help talking to strangers?\u00a0 I keep trying to be nice and they keep looking at me like a 3 headed monster.\u00a0 Where is the vaunted Texas hospitality?\u00a0 I\u2019m still looking for it.\u00a0 I know it\u2019s here somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Someone I love likes to say that you only need one good friend and to just pray that God will bring you the one that you need.\u00a0 Last time I did, I ended up on my neighbor\u2019s porch ordering her to come to lunch and so began a great friendship.\u00a0 I need a crazy lady to show up out of nowhere, God.\u00a0 Can you send just one loony my way?\u00a0 thanks.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In times past, people would leave their old lives and leave notes which simply read \u201cG.T.T.\u201d and their loved ones knew\u2026they\u2019d Gone To Texas.\u00a0 Well, so have we.
