A few weeks back, we picked up Ella\u2019s new-to-her wheelchair. It was functional and comfortable, but not really pretty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I took it to one of the local auto body shops, Detroit Custom & Collision in Sachse, and asked what they would charge to paint the frame. The owner shook his head and said \u201cI\u2019m not charging you for that. I don\u2019t know enough about them to take it apart, but if you can get the frame for me, I\u2019ll paint it any color she wants for free.\u201d (My Dr Who fan picked \u201cTardis blue.\u201d)<\/div>\n

I took it home and looked it over. I\u2019m not that knowledgeable about wheelchairs either, and wasn\u2019t sure I was up to tackling such a big job.<\/div>\n

I was dropping off my husband\u2019 scar for service at Happy Motoring in Wylie, when I mentioned to him that I needed a wheelchair mechanic to take it apart\u2026did he know of one?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cNo, ma\u2019am, but I\u2019ll do it for you.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I smiled and thanked him. I asked what that would run me. \u201cNothing,\u201d he told me, \u201cI couldn\u2019t even think of charging you for that.\u201d<\/div>\n

We dropped it off to be disassembled on Monday, took the frame to the painter on Tuesday, picked up the painted tubes on Thursday, and the reassembled chair on Saturday morning.<\/div>\n
