Of all the girls in my little social circle growing up, I\u2019m the only one who has more than one child.\u00a0 They\u2019re all driven career women with big plans and goals, and those goals don\u2019t include a half dozen children.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We\u2019re all still in contact with each other to varying degree.\u00a0 Some talk weekly; some are only Christmas card friends.\u00a0 On the rare occasion that we all get to see each other, we laugh and tease each other and fall back into childhood roles.\u00a0 (I was the nerd, in case you wondered.)<\/p>\n
Most of the ribbing I take is over the super-size of my family.\u00a0 They just don\u2019t understand the life choices that the Computer Guy and I have made. They shake their heads in wonder over the fact that we would want to be so tied down.\u00a0 I just smile, because I wouldn\u2019t trade places with them for anything.<\/p>\n
Then this afternoon, I got a call from one of the girls.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m pregnant,\u201d she told me. \u201c6 1\/2 weeks, so our baby will be 2 when the new one arrives.\u00a0 Everyone else thinks I\u2019m crazy, but I thought you\u2026\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so thrilled!\u201d I tried not to shriek in excitement. I know her medical history and how hard the first pregnancy was to achieve and carry\u2026\u2026I know how worried she is, but I also know her joy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI owe you an apology.\u201d She told me. \u201d I thought you were crazy for wanting so many babies, but I get it now.\u00a0 The doctor hands you happiness wrapped up in a blanket.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDoes this mean you\u2019re aiming for six?\u201d<\/p>\n
