before<\/a>, but I\u2019m surprised by it every morning.\u00a0 Some mornings it makes me cringe, and others it makes me smile.<\/p>\nCatholic Mass is not about the music.\u00a0 It\u2019s about the Sacrifice.\u00a0 It\u2019s about the Eucharist.\u00a0 The whole of the Mass is designed to build into a crescendo at the Consecration.\u00a0 The Eucharist truly is<\/i> the source and summit.<\/p>\n
Because the music is not the focus, it becomes instead a personal prayer sung out loud.\u00a0 This is evident nowhere more clearly than at our local 8AM daily Mass.\u00a0 On the mornings I don\u2019t cringe, I listen intently to the wonderful noise of it all.\u00a0 50-60 people, many deep in prayer, singing out their personal love and longing for our God.\u00a0 It is the sound of faith, the noise of love.<\/p>\n
I have often heard the Catholic Church criticized for not encouraging its members into a personal relationship with Jesus.\u00a0 I would vehemently disagree.\u00a0 I hear those personal relationships, the private love songs, the plaintive cries, every morning as I stand in my pew.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Love isn\u2019t a quiet thing.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t orderly.\u00a0 It very often isn\u2019t even pretty to look at or hear.\u00a0 Unless you are the one who is loved.\u00a0 Every morning, the faithful gather together and lift their hearts to their Almighty Father in love and trust.\u00a0 If you know how to listen beyond the discordant notes, you can hear it, too.\u00a0 It is quite simply the most amazing thing I have heard in years.\u00a0 It is the sound of a people reaching out to their Creator full of the knowledge that they are loved and heard.<\/p>\n
Musically it may be an awful mess, but in love and faith\u2026.it sounds pretty close to perfect to me.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
