\u00a0 I started cleaning out the house last week to get it ready to be shown.\u00a0 After a dozen trips to Goodwill and at least that many to our storage unit, I\u2019ve come to one conclusion\u2026we have too much stuff.\u00a0 We own way more than what we actually need.\u00a0 It\u2019s got me rethinking our lifestyle.\u00a0 We are such a part of the American consumerist culture that we don\u2019t even realize how much we have over-purchased, over-bought, and over-consumed.<\/p>\n
For someone who claims to be frugal, I\u2019m shocked by the amount of money I have wasted.\u00a0 Because I\u2019m not the most organized person, I tend to buy the same things over and over because I can\u2019t find them when I need them.\u00a0\u00a0 I own 6 bottles of liquid smoke.\u00a0 Liquid smoke!\u00a0 That\u2019s bordering on the ridiculous there.<\/p>\n
Sorting and packing has turned out to be a physical examination of conscience.\u00a0 I can see the physical effects of my own laziness, disorganization, and greed.\u00a0 I\u2019m ashamed at the shambles my house is once the surface is scratched. What a blessing this is becoming for me.\u00a0 It is holding up a mirror to my faults at the same time it is giving me the opportunity to be charitable, kind, and giving.<\/p>\n
With every load of unwanted, and mostly unused stuff that I haul over to donate, I can feel the weight lift from my shoulders and the change it is bringing to my soul.\u00a0 It is a painful and liberating process, and I am leaning into it.<\/p>\n
