We lost our family matriarch this past Saturday.\u00a0 She was my husband\u2019s grandmother, but even more than that, she was our champion.\u00a0 When we announced our engagement, and were met with the disapproval of parts of his family, it was her quiet voice saying \u201cLet them\u201d which brought everyone to the church that day in June.\u00a0 As our family grew and others\u2019 opinions about the number of children grew also, it was her firm approval which calmed our detractors and ensured that each baby was met with joy instead of raised eyebrows.<\/p>\n
It was her wrinkled hands that tugged socks off of baby feet because she loved to see the little toes.<\/p>\n
She taught me about making pies, making dinner and how to live a quiet faith in a loud world.\u00a0 It was her frugal example which taught me to bargain hunt, clip coupons, and never pay full price for anything.\u00a0 She was our cheerleader, our sage, and the anchor holding my husband\u2019s family together.<\/p>\n
The world is a poorer place today because she is no longer with us.\u00a0 Our loss is Heaven\u2019s gain.\u00a0 She has finally gone home as she was so anxious to do.\u00a0 Today, she is walking arm in arm with her sweet husband, Ruben, and at last in the presence of her sweet Jesus\u2026 just as she wanted to be.<\/p>\n
