It\u2019s been 3 weeks since I dropped the papers off at the doctor\u2019s office.\u00a0 I just need him to write \u201cThe kid eats non-food stuff.\u00a0 Give him ice.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not hard.\u00a0 I\u2019ll even write it for him.<\/p>\n
#3 has a history of eating hard non-digestible objects when he gets nervous and should be allowed to always have ice on hand to chew as needed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u00a0Then the doctor could sign it.\u00a0 I could give it to the school.\u00a0 The temporary ice arrangement would be made permanent and we could all go home happy.\u00a0 But it doesn\u2019t work that way in real life.<\/p>\n
In real life I dropped the form off at the doctor\u2019s office with a friendly little note explaining what I needed and thanked him for his help and paid the $15 paperwork fee.\u00a0 Could they fax it to me?\u00a0 They could?\u00a0 That would be aces!<\/p>\n
The nurse called me back.\u00a0 After hours.\u00a0 I missed the call.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t leave a number so when I called back IMMEDIATELY I got the answering service.\u00a0 I left a message.\u00a0 Can I just take a moment to say that I like the nurse, but she has a made up name I don\u2019t know how to say and she doesn\u2019t have a name tag that I\u2019ve ever seen so I just call and say \u201cI need to speak with Dr B\u2019s nurse Anf(mumble)nette.\u201d\u00a0 Somehow they always know who I mean, but she\u2019s never there.\u00a0 I get her answering machine.\u00a0 Beep. 7 times in 3 weeks.\u00a0 Beep.<\/p>\n
Today I got hold of her.\u00a0 They can\u2019t just write the order.\u00a0 He hasn\u2019t been to the doctor since May. ( I thought this was progress.\u00a0 It seems to be a problem.\u00a0 Silly me.)\u00a0 Can I have the psychologist he\u2019s been regularly seeing fax her paperwork through to the doctor and he\u2019ll write the letter\u2026\u2026\u2026for ice\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026I just want to point that out again\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.for ice\u2026\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n
He hasn\u2019t seen the shrink since May either when she declared that he would be fine until school started as he had made such progress. We agreed.\u00a0 Apparently that was dumb, because now she doesn\u2019t feel comfortable calling the doctor to tell him to write the letter to tell the school to give my boy ice.<\/p>\n
The doctor has to see him first.\u00a0 We have to go in on Monday to see the doctor so that he can say \u201cyes he still chews stuff\u201d (which the school already knows!!!!!!!!!!!) so that we can get him ice.<\/p>\n
it\u2019s just ice.<\/span><\/p>\n
So I sat on the phone in the car, in front of my children, talking to the nurse and sobbed incoherently<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am.\u00a0 I understand all of that, but Dr B just can\u2019t take the responsibility of prescribing a treatment for a patient he hasn\u2019t seen since May.\u00a0 The legal liability of that would just be horrendous.\u201d<\/p>\n
what?<\/span> legal what? are you freaking kidding me?\u00a0 I NEED THIS DUMB PAPER IN MY HAND BY LUNCHTIME ON TUESDAY AND YOU\u2019RE CALLING ME TODAY AFTER YOU\u2019VE HAD THREE WEEKS?!?!
