\u201cIs there anything that can be done to help Ella?\u201d My eldest son asked me last night.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing everything we know to do. What did you have in mind?\u201d<\/div>\n

He took a deep breath and then let it out. \u201cLike a donation \u2013 stem cells, bone marrow, nerve grafts. That kind of thing.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u2019ll admit that I was intrigued by such a question from a 14 year old boy\u2026almost a man, really. What did he really know about such things?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Quite a lot, as it turns out. He\u2019s been researching for the past few weeks, looking up anything he thinks could help and following all of the rabbit trails to their ends. He explained to me about how stem cells work \u2013 that embryonic cells haven\u2019t done much of anything, but adult ones have been used for all kinds of things. He told told me about bone marrow, what it does and how it\u2019s collected. He went on to talk about tissue donations and how it could be used for his little sister.<\/div>\n

\u201cI guess what I\u2019m saying,\u201d he finally said, \u201d is that if she needs anything, I\u2019ll give it to her. I know all of these things hurt. I know that they\u2019re not easy, but I want to do them. Please, Mom, won\u2019t you let me help her?\u201d<\/div>\n

I wrapped my arms around the brave and generous man he has become, and held him tightly.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThank you.\u201d I said. \u201cThank you for everything you are offering to do for her. We still have no diagnosis, so it\u2019s too early to even think about such things; however, I\u2019m so proud that you would do this for her. I\u2019m so touched that you would offer.\u201d<\/div>\n

He sighed and swiped a tear and leaned into me.<\/div>\n

\u201cI just want to make it right,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
