#6 took his first steps last week.\u00a0 Three steps from the coffee table to his dad, and the next morning, two steps from the couch to me.\u00a0 (Why is it that the last three children have all taken their first steps when I\u2019m not here?)<\/p>\n
Since then\u2026he just can\u2019t be bothered.\u00a0 We wait until he\u2019s standing, holding on to some piece of furniture, then we sit down and call to him to walk to us.\u00a0 He smiles.\u00a0 He laughs.\u00a0 He drops down on all fours and crawls on over to us.\u00a0 He\u2019s just not interested in walking.\u00a0 He can<\/i> do it, now why should<\/i> he?\u00a0 <\/p>\n
He is utterly without motivation to walk.\u00a0 He gets carried around everywhere, and because he\u2019s not too heavy nobody minds.\u00a0 He\u2019s not a fast crawler, but he has nowhere to go in a hurry.\u00a0 He\u2019s more interested in climbing to the top of our furniture and bookshelves than in strolling across the room.<\/p>\n
He\u2019ll be one in two weeks, and while I\u2019ll miss his babyhood, I\u2019m ready to move onto toddlerhood.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m ready for his hand in mine as we walk down the path by the creek and to watch his chubby legs churn as he runs to his dad.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t want to.\u00a0 Who ever decided that these children could make such decisions or themselves?\u00a0 <\/p>\n
For the next few days, I\u2019ll be following him around like a loon, trying to catch his baby steps on camera..immortalized to amuse me in my old age.\u00a0 I\u2019ll keep you posted on his progress.\u00a0 His Oma says \u201cNo birthday cake for boys who don\u2019t walk\u201d is a German tradition.\u00a0 She\u2019s threatened him already, twice.\u00a0 He just laughs at her.\u00a0 Don\u2019t tell #6, but she threatens them all, and even the non-walkers get cake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
