I\u2019ve gotten a couple of comments and emails from readers who are confused a bit by the purple hair.\u00a0 Let me begin by assuring my male readers that this is the last \u201chair\u201d post for a while, but women want to know these things.<\/p>\n
It all began a week and a half ago when I went to an all girls dinner party thrown by my cousin.\u00a0 She has these every three months and calls them \u201cEat, Drink and Gab.\u201d\u00a0 They are a hoot and I highly recommend coming if you are fortunate enough to be invited, or throwing your own if you aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n
There was this brilliant, gorgeous, funny lady at the party whose chocolate brown hair sported crayola red stripes.\u00a0 It was so fun and so unexpected.\u00a0 I was obsessed.\u00a0 It was all I talked about all night. (I did talk about other stuff, but I talked about her hair A LOT.)\u00a0 I talked about it so much that people started asking my why I didn\u2019t have something similar.\u00a0 I laughed and explained that as a conservative, homeschooling, Catholic mommy\u2026well, I just might be thrown out of our clique if I showed up with something so avant garde.<\/p>\n
When I got home, I told my husband about the fun of an all girl dinner party.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure he listened to all of it, but when I mentioned her hair and laughed about the suggestion that I try it..then he listened.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy not?\u201d He asked me.\u00a0 I told him of my identity as a Catholic, blah, blah, blah mom and he just shrugged.\u00a0 \u201cYour friends are your friends and will love you no matter how you look,\u201d he reasoned.\u00a0 \u201d The people who know you well will not be surprised at all.\u00a0 Why do you care about the other people?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Have I mentioned that I love him?<\/p>\n
Armed with new confidence, I called my hair girl.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t recommend crayon red,\u201d she said as my heart sank.\u00a0 \u201cIt fades really quickly and I don\u2019t think you\u2019d be happy with it.\u00a0 Have you ever thought of purple?\u201d\u00a0 Yippee!\u00a0 Here\u2019s the person in charge of my hair not thinking I\u2019ve gone crazy.\u00a0 \u201cI think you\u2019d look hot with purple hi-lights.\u201d<\/p>\n
So, long story short-er, I did it.\u00a0 It took three hours of bleaching, coloring, cutting and styling and when she spun the chair around\u2026.I laughed out loud.\u00a0 I was that happy with it.\u00a0 I no longer looked like the stereotype of stay-at-home mother hood (a look I work very hard to pull off).\u00a0 I looked like a happier me.<\/p>\n
What does the Hubs think?\u00a0 He walked into the kitchen, and I was so nervous about what he\u2019d say.\u00a0 Silly me.\u00a0 He smiled and said, \u201cYou did it.\u00a0 It looks great.\u201d<\/p>\n
We went out for dinner that night for our anniversary, and I asked him if he really like it.\u00a0 He smiled his little grin and said, \u201cYou look like the girl I fell in love with.\u201d\u00a0 I feel like her, too.\u00a0 She was quirky and fearless, and I\u2019ve been missing her, more than I knew.<\/p>\n
I gave him my best come-hither look and asked, \u201cEver gotten lucky with a girl with purple hair?\u201d<\/p>\n
