I was in the kitchen yesterday afternoon with the 3 year old.\u00a0 He was trying to explain to me in his own patois what he wanted to eat for a snack.\u00a0 The poor kid has me for a mom, and I only speak English( and the bad words in Spanish and French.)<\/p>\n
He stood in front of me patiently jabbering and then ending each sentence with \u201ceat that.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cEat that\u201d was all I understood.\u00a0 I smiled apologetically at him and shrugged.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m sorry, #5, I just don\u2019t understand.\u00a0 Does it have another name?\u201d<\/p>\n
He stopped and stared at me for a moment, he couldn\u2019t believe how dumb his mom could be.\u00a0 Was he not speaking English?\u00a0 With a shake of the head he turned to the cabinet and pulled out a small bowl, walked back over to the pantry and pointed.\u00a0 \u201c(Something unintelligible) in the bowl.\u00a0 Eat that.\u201d\u00a0 You have no idea how dumb I felt as I shook my head.<\/p>\n
\u201cCheez its?\u201d I asked him.\u00a0 He shook his head in disgust.
\u201cNo.\u00a0 (Unintelligible sounds.)\u201d
\u201cYeah,\u201d I answered him.\u00a0 \u201cI got that part.\u00a0 I just don\u2019t know what it is.\u00a0 Is it cereal?\u201d
A tearful voice answered \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 I honestly was beginning to feel badly for the kid with the stupid mom.<\/p>\n
\u201cCan you show me one more time? I just don\u2019t know what it is that you want.\u201d
\u201cThat.\u00a0 (Unintelligible sound).\u00a0 That in the bowl.\u00a0 Eat that.\u00a0 Pleeeeeeaaaasssse.\u201d
Hopefully, I asked, \u201cIs it popcorn?\u201d<\/p>\n
He looked at me with a mixture of pity and contempt.\u00a0 He shook his head and dropped his bowl on the floor.\u00a0 He hung his head, paused for a moment to sigh, before he walked over the wall and banged his head against it twice.\u00a0 Then the kid with the world\u2019s densest mother walked slowly away muttering to himself about dumb grown-ups and his plans for world domination.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
