I thought eating differently was all about my physical health.\u00a0 Who knew I could be so wrong?\u00a0 It has made me aware of my shortcomings as a mother and as a person.\u00a0 It has shown me how I suffer from the sin of sloth.<\/p>\n
I thought I was fat because of gluttony, because I ate too much.\u00a0 I need to lose weight because I am lazy.\u00a0 It seems funny for someone as busy as I am to discover my own laziness.\u00a0 I would have thought I wouldn\u2019t have had time to be lazy.\u00a0 Sin has a way of sneaking up and surprising us.<\/p>\n
I used to plan.\u00a0 I would make detailed menus of well balanced meals for my family.\u00a0 There were varieties of vegetables and lean, well-seasoned meats.\u00a0 Recipes were rotated and experimented with, calories were planned, nutritional values considered.\u00a0 I got tired of the fight.\u00a0 My children argued and whined about trying new things.\u00a0 They refused vegetables.\u00a0 My husband balked at the idea of going without his meat and potato favorites in favor of something new and untried.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t fight them all forever, so I quit trying.<\/p>\n
Chicken strips from the grocery store and burgers from the local burger joint were quick easy and never disputed.\u00a0 There was no mess from cooking to clean up, just wrappers to ball up and toss into the trash.\u00a0 The path of least resistance made my life easier.<\/p>\n
Easier isn\u2019t better and it\u2019s making me sick.\u00a0 If we were to look, it\u2019s probably making my family sick as well.\u00a0 Their health and well being is my job and I have quit in the face of opposition.\u00a0 I have let ease and my own inertia beat down my instincts.<\/p>\n
I willingly have ignored it all until God set my esophagus on fire and reminded me that failing to do the right <\/i>thing can be just as harmful as doing the wrong<\/i> one.\u00a0 I have sinned against God and my family by not caring for this incredible gift to the best of my ability.\u00a0 Sometimes it takes a lightning bolt to wake us up to the truth of our situation.\u00a0 For me, that lightning struck in my chest.\u00a0 Now I just have to figure out what I\u2019m going to do about it.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
