Last week I had the privilege of meeting a long time blog reader in person.\u00a0 I worry that I may have disappointed her.<\/p>\n
The person I am in real life is not the same as the person I am online.\u00a0 I\u2019m just not funny in real life.\u00a0 I\u2019m amusing, sarcastic, and irreverent, but I\u2019m just not funny.\u00a0 My husband confirms this for me often when he remarks \u201cYou\u2019re so funny when you write.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m okay with this.\u00a0 I think it would be a lot of pressure to be the \u201cfunny\u201d friend.<\/p>\n
The wonder of writing is that I can think, edit and then re-think every word I put in print.\u00a0 Real life isn\u2019t like that.\u00a0 In real life I tend to be much more rash and brusque.\u00a0 I get annoyed a lot more easily because I don\u2019t have the luxury of slowing down and really thinking before I formulate a response to things.\u00a0 My real-life brain goes in strange and seemingly illogical directions which only my closest friends can easily follow.\u00a0 They are used to the strange turns our conversations take.<\/p>\n
I need for life to come with a delete key.\u00a0 How much wiser and more wonderful could I be if I were able to edit myself?\u00a0 How much easier would my life be if I could think for as long as I needed before responding to people?\u00a0 Can you imagine standing in the checkout line at the grocery store and just stopping to think about exactly how to phrase the response to the questions \u201cAre they all yours?\u00a0 Do you want any more?\u201d\u00a0 If I could just stop time to think a bit, how much wiser could I appear?<\/p>\n
Life doesn\u2019t work that way.\u00a0 We all have to respond to things as they are thrown at us.\u00a0 Sometimes we hit upon exactly the right things to say and sometimes we leave people scratching their heads and wondering how this odd person with not much to say writes the things you love to read.<\/p>\n
To my sweet blog-reader, you are lovely.\u00a0 I hope you the reality matched the imagination.\u00a0 If not, I hope I was better.\u00a0\u00a0 We won\u2019t even discuss any other possibilities.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
