We got married 14 years ago in June. We were poor.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve never had to choose between buying groceries and paying the gas bill, you\u2019ve never been as poor as we were on that cloudy, wonderful day.\u00a0 We had no honeymoon, just two nights at a local hotel, and it was a stretch for us to pay for that second night.\u00a0 I knew that it would be alright, because eventually, we\u2019d graduate from college and earn some money and then we\u2019d have a romantic vacation together, just the two of us.<\/p>\n
#1 arrived that first year, and we were no wealthier.\u00a0 #2 came the year my sweet Computer Guy graduated from college.\u00a0 There were no get-aways for us.\u00a0 Our vacations were all trips to my in-laws\u2019 because children need to know their grandparents, and we got to relax a bit as there were two other people who would love to hold the sweet children.\u00a0 Those weeks in Corpus Christi were great, but there\u2019s not much romance when your mother-in-law is the light sleeper in the next room. <\/p>\n
We\u2019ve never been away, just the two of us.\u00a0 It\u2019s something I miss.\u00a0 I have no memories of exploring with him and relaxing with him and just making memories to laugh about in private jokes with him.\u00a0 There are days when I am tired of being a mother and just want to take a break and be a wife.<\/p>\n
We get our chance at last.\u00a0 I\u2019ve cooked up a secret plan with the Computer Guy\u2019s Boss to get him out of town for a few days and help him to remember the guy I married who didn\u2019t work all the time and wasn\u2019t so stressed.\u00a0 (When your boss notices it, you really<\/i> need a vacation.)<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not saying where we\u2019re going, just that it\u2019s somewhere peaceful and quiet. For four days, it will be just the two of us, and #6.\u00a0 Yes, we\u2019re at that point in our lives where a weekend away with the 6 month old is a vacation and terrifically romantic.\u00a0 Just us.\u00a0 For a long weekend.\u00a0 Just a few more weeks, but I\u2019ve waited this long, the last stretch will be easy.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
