Prime Video recently announced that it has ordered the animated adventure comedy series, “The Chosen Adventures,” to series. The show consists of 14 11-minute episodes, and is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios. It will premiere on Prime Video in the U.S. on Oct. 17 and internationally in the United Kingdom, Latin America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and Sub Saharan Africa.

“The Chosen Adventures” follows nine-year-old Abby and her best friend Joshua as they navigate life in the ancient city of Capernaum. When the children encounter a wise craftsman and teacher, Jesus of Nazareth, he helps them change the way they see the world, and they help spread his influence far and wide (among the 7 to 12-year-old set). And did we mention that she has a talking sheep?
“The Chosen Adventures”stars Paul Walter Hauser as Sheep, Yvonne Orji as Pigeon, Romy Fay as Abby, Jude Zarzaur as Joshua, Danny Nucci as Abba and Zehra Fazal as Eema. Other recurring and guest voice cast members include Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, Jordin Sparks as Fish, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary, Noah James as Andrew, Joey Vahedi as Thomas, George H. Xanthis as John, Yasmine Al-Bustami as Ramah, Brandon Potter as Quintus, Banks Pierce as Hilarius Maximus and Julian Grant as Cyrius Maximus.
During last year’s “The Chosen Insider’s Conference,” series cretor Dallas Jenkins brought Derral Eaves, executive producer of “The Chosen,” onstage and credited him with the initial inspiration and drive to make the new series happen. Eaves explained it was the shooting of the third episode of the first season, where Jesus interacted with children, that placed the idea in his heart.
“I was seeing something I’ve never seen before, which is Jesus interacting authentically with kids,” he said. “And I’m like, ‘Man, this generation needs Jesus. He needs what Jesus taught over 2,000 years ago. And for me, it’s been on my heart, literally, for our kids and future grandkids . . . it’s just that’s the world needs it right now.”
Ryan Swanson serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Dallas Jenkins executive producing under his 5&2 Studios banner. Chris Juen, Chad Gundersen, Keith Alcorn, Kellen Erskine, and Derral Eves also serve as executive producers, alongside producer Erin Elizabeth Gardner and co-producer Myesha Gosselin.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Paul, Yvonne, and Jordin into “The Chosen” family as we continue to produce more incredible content for our fans,” said Ryan Swanson, Creator/Executive Producer of “The Chosen Adventures” and Executive Producer of “The Chosen.” “We were surprised and encouraged to discover that children have been watching ‘The Chosen’ alongside their parents, so we wanted to continue the family co-viewing experience by creating an animated series that is full of humor, heartfelt life lessons, and loveable characters.”
Swanson, who calls himself a “lifelong animated watcher,” says that even though the goal will be to capture kid’s imaginations, the ultimate purpose is much more serious.
“None of it matters if we’re not connecting with kids with Word,” he said. “So Jesus is a central character in the show. He, as Jonathan just explained (in the promo video) is a teacher figure. But these kids are doing relatable kid things.”
Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios inked a first-look multi-faceted deal with 5&2 Studios. The wide-ranging deal provides streaming rights to the first five seasons of “The Chosen,” the upcoming drama series, “Joseph of Egypt,” and the new unscripted series “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls” for Prime Video. The pact also includes theatrical and streaming rights to the upcoming final two seasons of “The Chosen,” which will follow the crucifixion (Season Six) and the resurrection (Season Seven). Lionsgate handles global distribution for “The Chosen” and “The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls.”
