Jonny Lang\u2019s Turn Around <\/i>was one of my favorite albums of the 2000s. I went to the tour stop to support it at Knoxville\u2019s Tennessee Theater and it blew me away. It didn\u2019t include theatrics or even much stage banter, but just plenty of good guitar rock\/blues talent. The publicist told me Jonny put on one of the best shows he\u2019d ever seen. And he was right. It also didn\u2019t hurt that we were given third row seats. Here\u2019s<\/a> a little video clip where I captured some of the talent.<\/p>\n

I interviewed Jonny for Turn Around and I\u2019ll always our discussion of Steven Curtis Chapman\u2019s observation of him. \u201cHe said \u2018here\u2019s this guy who sings like an old blues singer and you look at him and he looks like he stepped out of an American Eagle catalog.\u201d Jonny laughed and said, \u201d And you say that as I\u2019m wearing my American Eagle cargo pants!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Jonny\u2019s new album, Fight For My Soul<\/i>, releases in September. I think I may even like it more than Turn Around<\/i>. It features a variety of styles but good, gut-wrenching vocals and music. \u201cBreakin\u2019 In\u201d has a funky urban pop sound while the tender \u201cAll of a Sudden\u201d has Lang going full falsetto. \u201cWhat You\u2019re Looking For\u201d challenges the listener to consider his or her spiritual and emotional perspective and \u201cI\u2019ll Always Be\u201d is a grand rock opera-type love anthem.<\/p>\n

The lead single \u201cBlew Up (The House)\u201d is now streaming and I\u2019d recommend it for a listen until you can get the whole album.<\/p>\n
