A first look trailer has dropped for A21 and Apple TV+\u2019s forthcoming release, \u201cThe Tragedy of Macbeth,\u201d written and directed by Academy Award\u00ae-winning director Joel Cohen and starring Academy Award\u00ae winners Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.\u00a0 The adaptation of the classic play by William Shakespeare will also include Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson.<\/p>\n

In a recent Instagram interview reported on Indiewire<\/a>, McDormand made an important distinction about what will set the adaption apart:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a very important thing about Joel\u2019s adaptation is that we are not calling it \u2018Macbeth,\u2019\u201d McDormand said in an\u00a0Instagram Live discussion<\/a>\u00a0last year. \u201cWe\u2019re calling it \u2018The Tragedy of Macbeth,\u2019 which I think is an important distinction. In Joel\u2019s adaptation, we are exploring the age of the characters and in our adaptation the Macbeths are older. Both Denzel and I are older than what is often cast as the Macbeths. We\u2019re postmenopausal, we\u2019re past childbearing age. So that puts a pressure on their ambition to have the crown. I think the most important distinction is that it is their last chance for glory.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During his promotion of \u201cJ. Roman Israel, Esq.,\u201d Washington spoke freely<\/a> about how his personal Christian faith has guided his journey and continues to guide his career:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was prophesied that I would travel the world and preach to millions, it was prophesied when I was 20,\u201d he said. \u201cI thought it was through my work and it has been. My mother said to me when I was 59, she said, \u2018Denzel, you do a lot of good. You have to do good the right way and you know what I\u2019m talking about.\u2019 I don\u2019t drink anymore. I don\u2019t do any of those things. I\u2019m all about it the message to the degree that I know and I\u2019m I unashamed and unafraid to share it. So you have to be unashamed and unafraid to share it in the way that your millennial generation knows how.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
